Hey, I'm Madi, I'm new and looking forward to going to my first track day soon. I've never ridden a motorcycle before (aside from the back of course). My husband and I went up to Atlanta today and bought this CBR 600RR that was listed here on STT. :boink:
Cool stuff! Welcome to the crazy world of track day junkies! You will love it and STT is a great organization! They will teach you how to ride that new rocket you just got! Have fun. See you at the track soon!
So I'm going to get beat if I drop my bike? Steep learning curve intermingled with domestic violence...
You'll be fine....come on out and enjoy! You'll not find many that haven't dropped theirs. It's a standard question at the riders meeting.
I rode for the first time today in a deserted industrial area near our home. I only went about 30 mph but it was awesome! I'm kinda like Ben Stiller from the movie Zoolander though... I can't turn right. Well I can, but it sure isn't pretty!
Stu wants to go to NOLA really really bad but we have some family obligations/shenanigans to take care of that weekend. I think my first track day will be in Little Talladega.
Congrats and welcome! STT is a great organization to begin your track day addiction. They have very knowledgeable instructors to help you learn the skills needed to have fun and be safe. Enjoy and look forward to seeing you at the track soon.
Madi..........Don't take this the wrong way, but before you come out for one of our STT track days, you need to have the basic riding skills.....throttle, shifting up and down, turning (we'll make you much better at this). STT will teach you how to improve your riding abilities, but having never ridden a bike and going to a track day is probably not in your best interest. Hopefully, between now and Little Tally you will get a chance to work on those skills and be ready to come out and join the fun. Looking forward to seeing you at the track soon.
Vern, I take advice where ever I can get it! Stu and I are going to be working on the basics and I'm going to take the Motorcycle Safety Course down here at Fort Rucker. Luckily I've always driven a manual so shifting and stuff like that isn't completely foreign to me. Thanks for the good tips though! In my brief 20 minutes of riding I've already learned that if you look somewhere... THAT IS WHERE YOU'RE GOING. hehe
Wow that's a really powerful bike to start on. A 300 ninja, 500 ex/ninja, or sv650 would have been better (IMO of course). Anyway by looking at the picture your bike appears to have a motion pro quick throttle. Lots of riders find these very stiff. Might want to look for an OEM throttle. At the very least I would find the smallest cam Motion-Pro has to make the throttle less sensitive. The rear brake reservoir appears to have been removed and replaced with just a hose, it's way too long and is going to flop around all over the place. Cut it down to three or 4 inches max. Also if you didn't ask while you were at Barber you might want to contact stt about minimum rider qualifications before hitting the track. From the STT website "Rider Skill Levels Please keep in mind that we do not teach you how to ride a motorcycle. To participate as a first time Novice in an STT event you must be comfortable riding at near highway speeds and in moderate traffic. If you are not yet at this level, call or email us and we'll provide you with some tips to gain more riding experience before your first track event." Be careful and have fun. Steve
