Just wanted to say hello. I am new to the track thing. I recently did a track day at Grattan (June 1) with Foxpowersports and had a blast (I "think" that day was also hosted by STT?). I took my Z125 (my only bike currently). I have done plenty of Gingerman days in my car and lots of Karting days (MRP in Indiana) but the bike thing is all new to me. I learned a ton from the instructors and now am hooked. I also signed up for the Bike Night at Gingerman on July 20th. I know I am "the slow guy" (speed bump) on the straights but am hoping that I won't be that annoying to all the "real" bikes that travel at normal speeds on the straights. At Grattan we stayed to right on the straight to give room for others to pass on the left (which was pretty crazy getting passed at twice the speed I was traveling). I am already looking for a "real" bike but for now, the Z125 is pretty darn fun on the track.
Welcome to the bike and the addiction. Make it back down to Indy, yell and look me up. Putnam is a fun track. Keep any eye out some good deals show up on bike's. Might also keep checking the Wera forum as age catches up with us many finally decide it's time to quit.
Indy, Thanks for the ideas! I will keep my eyes out for something. I am looking for a 650-ish naked road/track bike. I like the Yamaha FZ/MT-07 so far. I know others like the SV650 too.
Many cut there teeth on the SV650 and constantly come up for sale. Fall, winter is normally the best time for buying but surprises do happen. Might start noting prices with mod's to know if your getting a screaming deal.
I am not 100% sure but normally Groms and z125's aren't allowed at normal STT events i have inquired for you
Hey Sv125 sounds like Adam has already gotten in touch with you but in case someone else stumbles across this. Our insurance minimum limits are 125 2 stroke and 250 4 stroke. Sorry hope you get a bigger bike soon to join in the fun
R/T, Thanks for the info. Yes you are correct, Adam connected with me yesterday and it seems like the Grattan track day was unique due to how Fox Powersports had set it up (to be 125 friendly). Kind of a bummer on the Gingerman track day (or any of them I guess) but it makes sense. Well the hunt for a big bike begins a bit sooner than I had planned
I was in the Novice group for the morning with Brock. He did a great job and it was fun learning from him. After lunch be said I should go up to the Intermediate group so I did the intermediate group the rest of the day which was great. I hope to be back soon ............ just need a bike now it seems
I did see those, thanks for the heads up! I am also considering the Yamaha R3 now. Even though it is a smaller bike it may do what I need to get me started....
There was nothing more to teach you, you listened and applied the techniques I showed you . A++ Student
HA! I was never called that in school. I was normally just sent to the principal's office for "poor listening skills" ..... by the way, I picked up a Yamaha R3 (although still small) so now I should be OK for Gingerman
Awesome! I was also looking at a Ninja at Babbit's before I got the R3. I can't wait to go to Gingerman now. My next trip is for Bike Night on July 20th. Maybe I will see you there.
I don't go to gman often I will be setting up at grattan for the weekend. Have a great time I am sure you will
