Seems simple, but it's a huge issue. How do you treat/ prep your faceshield for track day? Also, as bug splatter is picked up bet rounds, does anyone use something like Rainx, etc to ease the splatter removal? Bugs were bad at my last Barber track day...
Lemon PLEDGE. I use that shit on everything!! Helmet, shield, bodywork, screen, frame, swing arm, wheels etc. keeps the bike super clean, removes the bugs, crud; shines n protects like nothing else!! You're welcome!!
Plexus plastic cleaner/polisher. Shit works great. Fills in the tiny scratch's. http://www.amazon.com/Plexus-Plastic-Cleaner-Protectant-13-Ounce/dp/B00092CKN4
I use the "Original Bike Spirits" formerly know as "Honda Polish" (years ago). It is similar to the Plexus already suggested. I have noticed that I get a lot more pits and niks from track riding vs street. I assume it is the higher velocities. I know on some shields a nik can cause a light hotspot which can be distracting. My HJC is ok but my bud has this with his Shoei. So I am giving tear-offs a try because I am a cheap bastard. They are $10 for 5 instead of $35-45 for a new shield. Not to actually tear-off all the time but help protect my shield from niks so I clean the tear-offs. I am not yet sure it was worth it as my experiment is still early. So far, the only problem is that the tear-off film scratches easily so you have to a bit careful. This is where the "Original Bike Spirits" help a lot.
I used to use pledge or the other windscreen specific stuff. I quit doing that a while back. Now I just set a soft towel saturated with plain old water on the screen for a two or three minutes between sessions, then wipe. It's amazing how easy bug guts wipe off, as long as they soak for a couple minutes. No drama and one less bottle to worry about. Took me a couple years to figure that out.
Protect All is what I have found that works on everything. I used to use Honda polish but protect all is better, in my opinion
I like simple aerosol glass cleaner from the dollar store and a microfiber rag. Works on bug splatter, keeps inside fog free. Clean the outside almost every session (Michigan bugs!) and inside once or twice a day. Honda Polish, Rain X, or similar products are awesome too, but make sure your screen is squeaky clean first before you apply anything that acts as a wax or polish to avoid scratches. -Tom
Another good product is turtle wax ICE. Not only have I polished my bike over a dozen times, the shield gets it, too. Ive used maybe a 1/3 bottle for shield and bike. I have, in my experience, found that using some sort of polish (ICE, pledge, honda stuff, etc) the bug guts slide off when they hit. If you just use water, it sticks like glue.
Turtle Wax ICE is a polish, not wax. And no, not Polish, from Poland. lol. And I am older than ya think. Dont make me get my bodyguard Cyndi after you.
Warm water on a saturated paper towel. Works awesome and I don't have to worry about bringing one more thing. Plus that's how it was recommended by bell for my photochromic shield, and I'm going to go with what they suggest on a shield that expensive Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Haha, I just started using the citrus pledge on my bikes. Been thinking about trying on the helmet. Might give it a try on the shield. Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
