I wouldn't say that you don't put the suspension through its paces at Road America I'd say you put it through a very different set of scenarios then you do at say, Autobahn.

The class isn't about getting your bike in tune and setup for that particular track. The class is about getting YOU in tune with your bike and how it's working FOR YOU. Not just at that specific track, but every track!

When you get to a certain level, your suspension setup for Road America will be different from Autobahn. Different sprockets. Maybe different wheelbase lengths. Suspension isn't just compression and rebound damping. It's also swing arm angle, tire pressure, front and rear ride height, wheelbase, weight balance front to rear and a whole lot more and the relationships between each of these items!

Do you know what other adjustments should be made when you change you're sprocket sizes for bigger tracks? If you can't answer that with 100% confidence, then you should be signing up for this class!

Knowing which end (front or rear) of the bike that you should adjust when having troubles with bike turn in or exit is only the first step. What could you change? How would it affect other things? How do you compensate. Should you compensate? Are you making changes that will help or hinder the situation.

When you add preload to the front forks, what else changes? These are the things you'll learn.

You get the suspension refreshed. Then over time, the fluid consistency changes throughout the season. You're tire wear worsens and you're tire use goes up. Do you need to make an adjustment to suspension? Do you need a full refresh? If you save 1 set of tires by learning how to adjust your suspension, you've just paid for the class.

You don't need the ambition to want to rebuild your own forks to do this class. But if you took the class, you could communicate with your tuner or suspension builder better. You can share what you've tried. What the result was and build a plan to improve your suspension. You'll also learn about preventative maintenance. Knowledge is power.

I've been at this for a while. I've spent plenty of time with Pro Racers, Team owners, Engineers, Vendors and everyone in between. Everyone has a different view or perception of things. I've watched every youtube video I can find on suspension. I've watched every DVD on suspension I could find. I attended an impromptu Mr. Moss classroom session a year or two a year ago. I learned things and as others posted, gladly compensated Dave for his time and knowledge. I can't wait to do a full school with him and benefit from his years of experience. Even if you're familiar with the concepts and physics of what's going on, a fresh perspective may help you to understand it even better.

Damn. I can't wait to get out of Novice and start to better understand really piloting my bike correctly. And to start to understand at all what you are talking about in this thread.

edit: suppose I should have said "can't wait to EARN my way out of novice"

Curious as to how much experience a new rider needs to have this class and training add value? My son has done 3 track days so far; he seems to be progressing well and was moved to the intermediate class at Putnam last weekend. Does he need more experience before he can feel the differences? Or is he better off getting this knowledge and education early so that he can progress that much faster?

    Some other feedback!!!

I've had the opportunity to work with Moss on three different occasions, twice at STT events and once at a Wera event, each time I've left with more knowledge and better ability to understand what is going on. It doesn't hurt that I've dropped huge amounts off of my lap times everywhere since working with him.. Just do it!!

I have always been able to get around the track pretty good but I had hit a wall in my growth around 2014. I just could not figure out how to feel confident to do what the faster guys were doing. Deeper braking, Earlier throttle, I just couldn’t find the confidence. Then I did my first Moss class and I started to get it. Dave gives his students a true understanding of the chassis setup and helps integrate it into your riding style. After working with Dave I was able to achieve my Personal bests at every track I visited in 2015 and win my first expert races. It has been the best money I have spent since I started trackdays in 2005.

Dave Moss at Barber in November

    Hey folks,
Some of the confusion about the school and the days which Dave will be doing suspension and training have been cleaned up at the new link for the school with STT. It is at:

    http://feelthetrack.com/2015-schedule-calendar/suspension-school/

I've been messaging Dave on his facebook page and have received this reply from him in regard to the November date with STT at Barber.

"November at Barber the school will be on Sunday only for intermediate and advanced combined and that will involve classroom and on track work for the entire day. Saturday will be for suspension tuning for all who attend and need the help."

WOW! Spent two days, with Dave Moss and today in his trackside class. WOW! Yesterday, it rained all day, but we got the suspension dialed-in in just a few sessions. Today, we were in class learning for myself how to understand the bike and make my own adjustments. Instead of pulling and pushing the bike to get it down, on my marker, and out of the turn almost on my marker, I can relax and enjoy riding with a bike that responds without undue force or thought. He made track riding go from "fun" to ... ...well, a whole lot more than just fun. Now I relax, spend a lot less energy, and think about hitting the marks, rather than driving, pulling, and braking the bike to my marks. At the end of the session, I ready for the next, not worn out.

In the class, Dave gave me the knowledge I need to make smart adjustments to my suspension. He gave me the knowledge I need to understand my bike and make reasonable assumptions as to why the bike does what it does. We were making adjustments and seeing immediately the results in how the bike handles. As with any complex machine, there is more than one single possible answer for why it is acting the way it does. Now, I can diagnose the bike's riding qualities with reasonable assurance, I'm going to get it dialed in. Best money I've ever spent on my track addiction. No more having someone else "set up" the suspension for me and my weight to leave it alone for the next two years, unchanged until the seals start to leak again.

The time I spent with Dave put the RUSH back into track riding for me. Thanks Dave.
