You're gonna be fine. I have one tip. When you goto the body positioning class, pay attention and ask questions! This staff has a knack for explaining things easily
Welcome to the addiction, As Sam mentioned on page one, you're welcome to come and pit with us. We'll answer any questions or help you with anything you need through the day. We are planning to come in Friday evening to setup. As for where to stay, there's a few hotels within a 15 min drive of Barber. We're staying at the Holiday Inn Express that's about 10-13 mins away if I remember correctly. Well leave everything at the track Friday night as other people mentioned. Cheers, Josh
Trey, Welcome! Like the others have said before me, you are in for a great time! I agree with all that has been said before and I offer my own suggestions: How much to bring: Everyone will have different opinions on this, but for your first day, bring the basics. You, bike, safety gear, gas can, someplace to sit, water, tire guage and some snacks to munch throughout the day. Make friends with your pit neighbors and coaches. DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP OR TO BORROW SOMETHING!! After your first day, you will know what you need to bring next time. What to expect: Expect to be hooked on a new hobby that you dedicate all of your discretionary income to. Seriously, if you aren't having a blast, we as staff are doing something wrong!! As Marc said, don't over think things. Listen to your instructors and ask questions... even if you think they are dumb or you are bugging the staff.. ASK ANYWAY!!!! That is why we are here. If there is something wrong, let us fix it! Our staff is the best in the business and every one of us loves to help out. The southern guys are top notch, even when us northern guys come 'round to play in their sandbox. Bike Prep: follow the instructions in this forum and on the website: tape all lights, mirrors, wheel weights, remove license plate. Bring a gas can (there is gas at the track, but easier to have a spare 5 gals). Show up, sign a waiver, go to riders meeting and group meetings. An SV is the PERFECT novice bike! There is more to this than the riding on the track. We are a huge dysfunctional family. At the end of the day, or Friday night, Hang out, get to know the riders and coaches, share a beer (responsibly, of course) and some laughs! With a little luck, I will see you there!
Got my hotel room secured now, too. I'll be at the Hampton Inn right there by the track. What time are we allowed to get into the track on Friday? Do people typically just hang out at the track that evening or head out to dinner some where? At this point, I'm planning to get there mid afternoon so I can go through the museum. I figure I might as well take it all in while I am there. Thanks for the replies and information everyone. I do appreciate it.
Welcome Trey. Gate usually opens at 5cst, but since you will be there early to go through the museum you will see everyone lining up to get in. I'll be coming from west paulding out I-20 as well. Look either for a black 69 GMC or a red Toyota tundra in the paddock and we can help with your set up.
