Hello there fellow motorcycle enthusiasts!! So I just signed up for 4/16 Grattan Counter Clockwise and have a couple quick questions for the snail newbies as myself and speedy wise track veterans. This will be my first time riding counter clockwise. I've ridden the track about 4 times. 3 days in Novice and one day in Intermediate day so I have tons to learn and grow from. Question 1 - Are the lines hard to learn in counter clockwise direction and how long does it take to learn? Question 2 - Will I need a tow from a coach? Question 3 - Are there any brake markers or anything on the pavement or track I need to keep an eye out for or be cautious of, in example in clockwise on final turn there's a patch that will give my bike a slight bucking sometimes. I'm not fast by any means. I looked through gopro footage after my last track day and my times are 1:33-1:35 I don't know if that helps with advice. Thank you all!!!
1. In my opinion the track is easier to learn CCW simply from the fact that there are far fewer blind turns. As far as how long it takes to learn that varies from rider to rider bit you should be up to speed after a session or two but I suspect you'll learn something new each session out. 2. Of course you won't NEED a tow from a coach but you will the track and the line more quickly if you ask for one. You'll also likely have more fun if you pick up the line from a coach in one of the first sessions and then spend the rest of the day fine tuning. 3. Lots of brake markers and reference points on the track. Only thing I can tell you to look out for is not to get too close to the inside of 10A (the left handed before you go down the hill). There is a bit of a dip there and you will definitely wheelie out of it or possibly catch air. Hope this helps. I may be there this weekend but won't know for sure until later this week. Feel free to come find me and I'd be happy to give you a tow and go over my reference points with you.
Thanks for all the advice Eric this is exactly what I needed!! I'll try to also watch some videos that always helps me and I'll be looking for you or another coach to get a tow. Rafi
+1. its a lot of fun gliding through the air but I haft to agree with Mr. Cell... Avoid going airborne on your first outing. Another area to note is the hump going into 5 CW will now be a ramp coming out of 5 CCW so be prepared to wheelie or... Catch air.
how is the bus stop ccw, its my first time ccw as well and I've been watching some video. in video it actually seems like its a little easier ccw but i am watching wera racing so they kinda make it all look easy lol.
If playing Motogp 15 taught me anything going uphill on sharp slower corners always had more grip especially front end grip lol Rafi
Just be sure not to blow that corner on the brakes or there's a 99.9% chance of hitting the Armco. Other than that CCW is a lot of fun.
My bike will have cameras for anyone that brings their laptops pc for Your bike videos at ccw grattan. Look for NitroNick*
Grattan CCW is the way I think the track should normally be run. I ran it last year CCW and just instantly felt "This is the way this track should run!!"
Treat CCW as if it were a new track. Ride at 80% the first two sessions to get comfortable, then start to turn up the pace.
I agree that Grattan is better in CCW. Diving down the hill at the end of the straight is a blast and turns 7-6-5 open up more and more as you ride through CCW so you pick up speed which feels better than the course continually tightening when ran CW.
as is mine. I will have it back together tonight I hope. I need to wet sand the clear coat and buff it, Install the Dzuz fasteners and then top off the radiator. Shoot! I still need to safety wire and install my throttle shims after all that... TIME IS RUNING OUT!
