So I got a new cargo trailer and I want to wire it for 30amp rv service. I have a female connector to go into the trailer and a locking cord that will connect trailer to power pole or gen set. Thinking I will probably put the plug in the floor. Easier to replace plywood than metal if I mess up, plus more rigid and maybe a little less chance of water working its way in. I will hide panel and outlet in a cabinet.

Anyway, I want to run two lines. One for lights and outlets, the other a dedicated AC line (12000btu unit/12amp). So what do I need for a service panel in the trailer. Guy at Home depot said get a 70amp box but put two 20 amp breakers in it an that would work. Now my electrical and math abilities are equally sketch but that doesn't sound right. If I am running 30amp service I don't see how I could do more than 2 15 amp breakers? I would think I would need a 30amp panel/main breaker and two 15 amp breakers.

The reason for the 30 amp is this trailer will be multi use, hunting/track days etc...and I will be running it off a 3400w gen set or plugged into a house (15amp plug) or camp site 30amp)

I have more build questions any good threads on here, WERA or other sites? Gonna ask over at WERA too but got a freaking banning for 15 days until the August 16...

    the
Just did the same in my 6x12 enclosed trailer. Used a 30A marine hookup to the outside wall on the v-nose, it's more secure for the extension cord to the supply. 10/2 ga wire to the 30A subpanel and two 20A breakers, one for the A/C and LED light strips, the other for a general purpose outlet at the back of the trailer. No problem using 20A, it will keep the breakers from popping on start-up on things like compressers and A/Cs.

you need to think more about the max starting amps not the continuous amps of the circuit. aka 2 20's are more than supported but your not going to start a compressor and your a/c at the same time.

Biggest draws will be AC and Microwave. They will both be on separate lines so not to overload that breaker. Will have to be careful about using both at the same time. . Sounds like a 30amp box with two 20amp breakers is the way to go. Thanks

Everyone else keep fueling the fire someone will surely be banned for life before this is over. Go Trump f#$k clinton I love reverend al...blue lives matter, all lives matter...:moon:...where can i post a video to get banned...still on my bucket list! I can't believe we are 6 pages deep...who is going to road atlanta saturday for to win the track day... oh look...:eek:fftopic:"

I did mention it was on my bucket list but two or three days would have made the point, 20 days or whatever it works out to be I thought was excessive for sarcasm...lesson learned stay away from the internet when drinking...and agree with Sean...

oh and for the 30 amp panel it has two lugs for power but an rv cord only has one hot wire. Should I just make a jumper wire between the two hots? It will only be limited to 110 but should keep the breakers in line...again my electrical theory is weak...

Yes just put a jumper between the two lugs. Sorry I forgot to mention that.
