After 25+ years on a bike, I finally know what it's like to fall off. First session on Sunday "I" group, 3rd or 4th lap and as I started into turn 1, the front end washed away... I ended up in the middle of the track, sat still and watched a couple bikes go around me (thanks for not hitting me people), got up and walked off the track. Bike is leaking a bit of oil, confidence is bruised. Point of this thread is that someone mentioned they had it all on GoPro. I'd really like to see the crash and welcome that person "hopefully he's an active forum member" posting it for all to see. I need to understand what happened. If it was cold tires and track, so be it. If I did something blatantly wrong (body position, etc.) I'd like to correct that mistake. Zach
That was a sketchy session. The track was really green with lower temps. Were you finished after that crash or were you able to ride the rest of the day?
Patched up the bike (thanks Clayton) and rode 2 more sessions. At lunch I checked my belly pan and saw some oil leaking. I probably could have kept topping her off all day and cleaning the belly pan but I didn't want to risk injury to myself or fellow riders by trying to stick around. New Ignition cover ordered from Woodcraft, new right peg and woodcraft puck. Should be good to go for BHF next week. I'm not sore at all which is great. It was a low side and pretty low speed.
ACC is pretty slick when green or wet so if I had to guess, it was a combo of cold tires/slick track. My first crash doing track days was similar. Don't overthink it, I tried, I lost, it was my bad and I learned that even on a warm, dry track to ride at least the first half of the first session at a relaxed pace. Haven't had a crash since!
Zach, glad your OK. I tend to agree ^ , don't over think it. Most important aspect is your safety! and if your all good its all good. Maybe cold tires, cold track, a bit to much trail break. I've always viewed the first "I" session of the day as the track prep session for everyone else
No doubt about it, the track was definitely slick in the first session on Saturday! Temps were cooler overnight. I came in wondering if it was just me, but others were commenting on it before I even brought it up. Cold track, cold (and brand new) sealer and cold tires. It warmed up quickly but that first session was sketchy.
Thanks for the comments people. I was just notified by revzilla that my ignition cover won't arrive in time for blackhawk, so the R6 will spend the weekend in the garage. I'm forced to bring out my street bike. Time to start prepping her for track duty. Unless - somebody has a spare ignition trigger cover for a 2008 R6 ?
yzf - r6,sir. Right side ignition trigger cover, 7 bolts. I'm out in the garage getting my 15 s1000r ready in the event I can't find this part in a very timely manner. This is the woodcraft one I ordered from Revzilla. Item# 1087647 Woodcraft Yam R6 06-15 Rhs Ignition Trigger Cover Assbly
I have an extra off my 03 R6, would fit an r6s but looks like a different part number than yours. The Woodcraft replacement is 60-0445RB
