Im looking at getting a new helmet soon. I have an x12 and have had Shoei for the past few years. I have also had Arai Corsair. I liked them both but on the track, I am constantly pushing the chin bar up as the the top of the opening cuts off my vision slightly. In full tuck, the back of the helmet hits the hump of my leathers. Does anyone else have this problem? As far as I know, I have a normal head. I am a perfect tight fit at a medium. I have in the past put extra foam in the crown of the helmet to force it up. Not smart. My question is what brands have a larger opening and has anyone tried them?
Full Tuck is always going to be a tad short on vision. I went with a Scorpion R2000 and found it to be one of the best viewports of all my helmets I've ever raced in. Now, the speed hump issue, what kind of suit?
Its an Astars Trigger. Not an overly large hump and that may not even be the problem. I don't have the problem when I ride on the street is what made me think of that but obviously BP will be less committed.
I haven't tried one on yet, but the new HJC RPHA 11 is supposed to have a 5mm taller viewing port than the RPHA 10, and I was pretty happy with my RPHA 10.
The best helmet is the one that fits you properly. That is why you need to try them on. That being said, it is difficult to do this unless you are at a bike show where multiple vendors are present as they will take the time to ensure it does fit properly. I have always worn Shoei because they have fitted me the best. YMMV
I ran a Shoei RF1100 for 3 years and i bought a new Shoei X-14 for this year and I have to say the X-14 is a much better helmet. Large view port, helmet doesn't move when in full tuck, no buffeting at high speeds
I had the exact same problem of having to push my helmet up to see further down the track with my last helmet. This fall I bought a Shoie X-14 and it is the best helmet I have ever owned. The inside cushions can be adjusted to move the eye port up about 5 mm which makes all the difference in the world. It ventilates better than anything I ever had. I highly recommend it. Just for reference...i have been riding for damn near 50 years now and have owned a dozen or more helmets. Arai and Shoie seem to be the best brands...I tend to favor Shoie myself as I have had several get off's and no concussions. I did have a high speed get off at Road Atlanta wearing an Arai and suffered a mild concussion. Was run over the head once at Oak Hill in the early 90's and was knocked out for a while...wearing an Arai for that one also and one other time I high sided and got knocked out...wearing an Arai. Lol...I switched to Shoie and stopped crashing so much! Not sure if it was cause and effect.... or I finally wised up a bit. I hope it's the latter.
LS2 Arrow is AMAZING! I never have to push it to see better and your FOV is great. The price tag makes it even better.
I am leaning towards the LS2 Arrow Carbon myself. Looking for a helmet with a better FOV. It's lighter than the X-14, which is my other best option.
Doesn't matter if it's a "perfect" snug fit, it the shell doesn't really match your head shape...shape not just size. The new Bell Star I finally managed to sell, at a huge loss, was a "perfect" fit for my head too as far as size, but I had the same problem you mentioned. I couldn't see shit in full tuck or in certain uphill corners where you have to look sort of up. I knew within 2 laps that it wasn't gonna work out for me. I never had that problem with my old Arai.
I have been looking at the LS2 helmets also...but cant find a place who has them on their shelf to try on. What brand helmet closely resembles the LS2 fit? Shoei? Arai? Bell? HJC? AGV?
AGV would be closest out of the ones you named. Where are you located? I noticed that polaris dealerships for some reason always have them. They didn't have the size I wanted, but I was still able to get a feel for how it fits.
