Don't attack here... there are some decent deals on this site for both (2) and one piece riding suits. Should (2) piece suits even be considered for Intermediates?.... thks
IMO, no. I bought a two piece for novice. Got a good deal on a one piece. Now when I do ride on the street the two piece serves me well. Figure out what size you need and start searching, there are several for sale here. Of course motorcycle superstore, new enough, STG have great sales. Just my two cent's.
I bought a 2 piece Pilot suit about 4 or 5 years ago and wear it every time I'm on the track, both just riding and when Instructing. A good quality 2 piece vs. a one piece is a personal choice, but I'm comfortable with the Pilot 2 piece. I certainly wouldn't buy a lower quality 2 piece, but the Pilot has been crash tested a couple of time and is a solid suit.
When I started out I got a Spidi 2-piece that was really more street-oriented, though I did use it in my first few races. It's held up great over the years through a handful of crashes. The 1-piece is better for track but I don't know that I'd rule out a 2-piece if it's full circumference zipper for getting your feet wet anyway. My main concern is the more street fit and it moving around too much.
it is generally accepted that a 1 piece suit provides better protection than a 2 piece (of the same model) suit.....
If you fit into a 1 piece i would defiantly go that route. Only way id say go 2 piece is if your body shape doesn't allow you to fit into a 1 piece.
I've got an AStars 1 piece that weighs 900lbs...It provides good crash protection.....I've also got a Dainese 2 piece suit I'd wear to any gunfight. Buy good gear and wear it. The choice is yours.
A quality 2 piece will serve you well both on and off track. If you're looking for something just for the track, then I wouldn't even look at a 2 piece. 1piece suits will fit better and be more comfortable on the bike while on the track. I've crashed in both and both have done what they were designed to do. The one piece is just more comfortable for track riding. The biggest thing IMO is fit, if you have a store hat you can go try some on its great. If not, STT usually has APEX and STG at events where they can walk you through the different suits and get you what you need. -BP
My personal experience (which is very little as far as the track is concerned) is that it has everything to do with YOUR body shape and your budget. I have tried on just about every off the rack 1 piece around and they just dont fit me. I do where a higher end alpinestar 2 piece zip together that works well (i had to go with a huge pair of trousers to fit my legs and have them tailored shorter). Eventually i'll spring for a custom suit but its pretty hard to justify at my level.
