I was bumped to Intermediate last year.
Just signed up for Road America and will be try for Barber in May.

When I signed up for Road America I picked Novice for two reasons.
First I've never been there before, and second which was my pressing reason.
Don't want to slow down other riders, didn't seem to effect them at Grattan.

My question is, should ask to move up and just ask a coach to show me the lines at Road America, same for Barber since I saw the I hate Barber post. LOL.
Looking at some video's, passing won't be an issue at RA with the long straights in the afternoon. Just afraid I'll be bored in the AM session's until they open things up.
This group always shot's straight with questions asked.
Figure worst case, I'll do novice, might be a little bored first couple of sessions but that might allow this old guy to have enough juice to do the last session, I have run out of steam.

Thanks in advance, hope to see you there.

Even at new tracks you should just hold your line and stay in I or A ect... A couple laps and you will learn the race lines with good safe speed... JUST HOLD YOUR LINE... Your only slowing yourself down and going backwards bumping down IMO... Unless your coming off a bad Injury ect....

Or...tell the Lead your status, and seek his imput. He may ask you stay in veteran novice, or assign you a I coach to specifically show you the lines the first couple sessions til you feel comfortable...

Will do,, I just know groups fill up.

So I'll ask to officially be moved to Intermediate. Which is normally the first to get full.
Does anyone know who is running RA in June. Would be glad to ask them directly.

I've been told my lines are good and I'm smooth. Just not as aggressive as the young pup's.

If you can ride I group at Grattan without any issues then you'll be fine in I group at RA. RA is far less technical than Grattan, just get an I coach the first session to show you the lines. I would not wait till you get to the track to ask to move to I, I would do that now because the I group could be full by then so moving may not be possible.

    Thanks, will do..
I wasn't a fan in the AM at grattan. It was 40 and the snakes rather slick.
By end of day, really enjoyed the track.
Will send an email now. Thanks for the input.

Sign up for I. You will do just fine. Talk to the I instructor after the riders meeting to help you with showing you the line. Will work awesome!

I agree with everybody else and say go Intermediate. From what I've seen, the very back of the Intermediate group runs at like a group 3 or 4ish Novice pace in the morning sessions at just about any track. Even if you can't get a tow lined up, if you line up at the back it's a casual enough pace to figure out which way the track is going without feeling like you're in the way.

...The three line drill is BRUTAL at Road America

There's a lot of open track at Road America.

I have. Road America is a great track, you'll have fun! I'll be camping at the track. White van with Vesrah decals. I'll have a grill and some extra brats or burgers. Stop by and say hi.
