Hey Steve hope your doing well, long time no see!

Here's gearing on my bike with a 180/60 tire assuming I was a 15,500 rpms. That says I was doing 176 which is 3 mph off what the speedo says. Who knows, if my speedo is off then I guess it's off. Last time I checked it via GPS last year it was dead on at 40-100 mph when I tested on the street. Point is, track was fast as shit.

Most laps I was 173 on my speedo at the brake zone of turn 1. That lap was different and I'm assuming it was from drafting Samm down the straight.

Yup.... 100% what this guy said right here. ^^^^^^

That guy needed a sit down. Bullshit, horrible, out of control, unskilled pass.

    Oh, and sorta dangerous.

Whew that was close! Whoever that was . . .clearly was not ready for the brake check. Kinda like when cars start slamming on the brakes in traffic and that one person ends up packing it into your bumper. I'm glad for everyone's sake that didn't happen!

Likely the same or possibly even slower at most tracks. Maybe at Road America you might be a little (1-2 seconds maybe) faster.

Riding a 1000 at a good clip isn't easy. You are having to manage wheel spin and wheelies at the same time. Once the talent level increases, say up to racers, and then on to Expert racers, it gets even tougher. At that point, there are no "straightaway heros". The guys going fast on 1000s are braking at the last possible moment, trail braking to apex, and getting on the gas early/hard, just like the fast guys on the 600s. The only difference is that you are doing so, while trying to control something that is never truly hooked up, and is trying to rip your arms off.

At Road Atlanta, im only 1sec faster on the 1299S than I am on the R6...because I can get through the chicanes and esses quicker on the R6. Oddly enough, im faster on the Ducati at little TalladegaGP. I managed a 0:59 on it last year, but have never went faster than a :00.1 on the R6.

Anyway, newer riders will be faster on a 1000 simply because of the straightaway speeds. But once someone gets to running a good clip on a 600, they usually don't pickup much time on a 1000. Off the top of my head, I think the WSBKs are only about 2 seconds or so faster than the WSS bikes (depending on the track).

    My two cents
A rider should always ride in A group and
I rider should always ride in I group.

I'm with Broome... I've been riding 600's for ever.... very comfortable and run a fast decent pace everywhere.. went out got an 1199, the full first year riding it I was a full 2-3 seconds slower on it than my r6 every track I went to. only after just beginning to figure out how to manage all of the crazy. (at my pace) was I able to close the gap to where I am running very similar times on both bikes.

Since all I've ever ridden are liter bikes, I'd love to go make a few laps on a 600 to see what the difference feels like....

That might be ok for a Moto2 race but not a trackday. Hopefully he came over and apologized after the session.
