Well words are hard to describe this one.... I got invited to the Brickyard Invitational with SVRA up at Indy...We were there Weds Pm till Sunday PM riding Thursday - Sunday with 2 Races Saturday and Sunday... A Few of my friends joined and this was the first time they were adding Race Bikes at Indy... I took the TLR and my GSX-R but only raced the TL. There were several different bikes large and small all grouped together for some simple exhibition racing all weekend. We ran the F-1 Configuration which was just over 3 Miles. The track was friggin awesome and it blew away my expectations... It is now my favorite layout of any track I have to say.. This event hosts Vintage Indy, Trans Am and other race cars... Its huge... The whole Infield was covered end to end in trailers... The best thing is is we got to camp Inside the track.. On Legends Row of all places.. We were 40 Yards from Gasoline Alley. Seconds from Euphoria....:thumbup: I actually went to the Atlanta Boat show and had Dinner with Bobby Unser 25 Years ago... He remembered me.. He was the Grand Marshall of the weekend...
That's badass!... I heard the PCA has been doing HPDE's out at the IMS GP track for the past couple years, any chance of STT ever running there?
Cant comment on that.... However HMGP is the Org that coordinated this with SVRA.... FIrst time Bikes were on the track since 2015 MotoGP...
Very nice, I've done the lap when the GP was here. A couple years with no marshals. Would be sweet if STT did day there. What do they consider vintage, my bike is over 10 years old. LOL
For HMGP (Who arranged this) its 05 and down.... However I was able to take my 09 GSXR out for one practice session.... Indy to rent is not cheap and if 1 Org did it it would bankrupt them.. SVRA had over 340 Cars with over 14 classes they ran... From Indy cars to Can Am... There were only 28 of us with bikes...We got a total of 4 Practice sessions and 2 races in out of the 3 days.. It was a very comfortable day and being able to camp inside the track let alone on Legends row was priceless....
I don't know how they did it, but the Mid Ohio Region Porsche Club managed to get the track for a 3 day weekend for $745/person for all three days: http://www.morpca.org/2017ims/ I would assume somebody from STT would have to commit an extremely unsavory act, either on or for a big wig at IMS, to make it happen... Likely something that would leave them dead inside and haunt them the rest of their days. Maybe you guys can draw straws or something.
That's awesome. Wish I'd have known bikes were going to be there before seeing some pics on IG...and out of town at the inlaws. I would have loved to see your TL in person.
