I'm currently running Pirelli's 200/55 on a 5.5" rim on my r6. I have always been under the impression this makes for a taller profile with more edge grip.

I've now been looking at the 180/60 (seems more like a 190) which per Pirelli is only 5mm narrower and the same overall diameter.

Some people have said that the 200/55 isn't even fully useful on a 5.5" rim because you lose some of the tire by it being pinched in.

Can anyone who knows more than me chime in as to the differences between the two and how it would effect handling / bike setup?

I've heard that as well. Id run the 180/60 if I were you. Too wide will definitely get pinched. Try the narrower tire see how you like it then go from there.

Never run a 200, but run a 180 60 on my 600 and it does quite well.

Yes a 200 on a 5.5 will give up the purpose of the 200 which is more contact area..... Run a 190/55 or 180 IMO....

Skip the 190 and get a 180. You will have better contact patch.

I have 180/60 for my 750, works great. It really is about the size of a "normal" 190. Also run a 180/55 Power Cup Evo.
