I'm thinking of going to slicks next year,just trackdays,I run intermediate.I have been running Pirelli Supercorsas for the last 4 years.Any pros or cons?
A true slick is always at the top of the heap - however it also requires warmers and the pace to keep them that way. DOT Race normally gives grip very close to full slicks, but can handle not being on warmers and a slower pace a little better... Lastly, price for many is always a consideration.
I find it interesting that Power Cup DOTs are cheaper than Power Cup Slicks. They say they are the same, except for the sipes. And the price.
The bike came with GPAs when I bought it,they were worn out,so I put Pirellis on.I don't ride at A pace though.
Michelin tells us that the compounds are the same. I don’t know why the prices are different, but the difference is marginal. The sipes in the Cups allows the carcass to flex a bit more, making it easier to keep heat in the tires. When I made the transition from Cup to Slick I did notice it took a bit more work to keep the heat in the front slick. For the OP, you should ask a truly qualified person if you are ready for slicks before you make the jump, just for the reason above. If your pace won’t allow you to keep heat in the slicks (Michelin or otherwise) you are putting your safety at risk. Based on your riding at intermediate pace it is more likely you would be better off with DOT race tires than slicks. Talk to the tire guys at your next track day! They are there to help.
