Has there ever been any noise testing or enforcement at Autobahn? I'm picking up a rather loud bike and am suddenly worried since I happened to find a few places listing it as 105db, but I don't recall ever seeing or hearing of any testing.

negative , ACC has not that I have ever seen ran a DB meter or have a noise restriction. they run Cars and bike pretty much none stop all year.

I never had seen or heard of anything over all of my years going there, but wondered if that was just because I was never loud enough to cause a ruckus. Thanks!

I know this isn't exactly the answer to your question per se but NCM has a 103 db noise limit and they actually test so keep that in mind if you are considering going there with your "loud" bike. I basically had a straight pipe on my R6 before I got a full exhaust system and they were concerned. I had to short-shift near where they were standing to not get black flagged pretty much all weekend.

With a stock exhaust it advises I'm at 120db, so I'd have to figure out something if I ever wanted to go back to NCM. I'll be mostly sticking to Autobahn next year so as long as I'm good there, I'll let 2019 version of myself deal with any other problems later on. Thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it!

120dB?!?!?!?!?! Are you measuring right at the pipe?

Typical track measurements would be taken 50' from the track surface.

I find it amusing that people complained about possible noise from the track when it was in planning and yet its right across the street from a train yard that runs all night and makes ALOT of noise. :D

It's 120 dB/A "using Auto Cycle Union (ACU) guidelines."

I did some digging and that is described as:

"The noise test will be conducted with the microphone placed at 50 cm from the exhaust pipe at an angle of 45° measured from the centre-line of the exhaust end and at the height of the exhaust pipe, but at least 20 cm above the ground. If this is not possible, the measurement can be taken at 45° upwards." And based on cylinder number it's measured at 5500 RPM. So yeah that'll be a hell of a lot different reading than you'd get from 50 feet, but also the RPM will be pretty different too.

I don't venture too far out of the Midwest so I don't anticipate the noise being an issue, but I can always slap a different exhaust on if needed!

Stupid question, has anyone checked on what it costs to run a sound test.

I would be glad to pay a fee to find out, thought about going to NCM and have put it off because of the noise limits.
Cost of drive, hotel, food and track day to be told. GET OUT OF HERE.

The test wouldn't need to be all day, one hour would cover the 3 groups.
I know my bike isn't quite, just not sure how loud it really is.

What bike would be at 120db with a stock pipe?!? holy hell!
Isnt there general traffic laws against that? Meaning: i dont see how a manufacturer got away with a stock exhaust that loud.

Dear lord dat exhaust on the turbine bike, hahaha.

It's a Ninja H2R, so no silly regulations keeping her quiet. It should be a fun 2018 :)

To order one you have to sign a sheet explaining why you realize there's a bunch of different reasons you won't be able to use it and/or it can kill you. I have a theory that this is only 10% lawyer CYA jargon, and 90% making the buyer feel cool. Now I can say that my bike is so crazy I had to sign a disclaimer to even order one:

    @indy:

Zero clue about an exhaust test but if you knew roughly how far from the track they test it you can pick up a db meter for under $20 and try to simulate it to at least get a ballpark idea.

Thanks! That Akra system is absolutely the route I'd go if I was headed to NCM or a track with similar noise limits. As it is, I doubt I'll get to anywhere other than Autobahn or Putnam next year so I'll be in good shape for the immediate future.

It doesn't show up until March, so I still have to find out! I had an derestricted H2 that I've been tracking for the last two years that is an absolute blast though. I doubt the H2R will be any faster with me at the controls, I just like crazy things so took the chance to upgrade.

I'd like to! I took my H2 to Road America and it was a blast, I just was still learning the track. It's a really challenging track mentally when I'm used to smaller tracks in the Midwest, the two non-main straights would just throw me for a loop at how long they were. Unfortunately I'll be tanking most of my vacation days with a trip so I'm stuck with weekend-only track days in 2018.

I hear Nelson Ledges in Ohio got repaved and is open. Thats probably about as far from you as ACC.
