Be warned if you are coming down I65 then heading east on I20/I59 that there is construction and from what I have heard from friends that live in B'ham area it is a mess http://rp.dot.state.al.us/I59_20/ http://www.al.com/news/birmingham/index.ssf/2018/04/interstate_5920_ramp_on_i-65_c.html Hopefully cured by this weekend but be warned.
Just looked it up it looks nasty. Is there any options to go around it? Have a big group coming from Chicago and will like to avoid it
Not that I am aware of without some serious back roads or a long way out of your way (for instance taking I24 toward Chattanooga then down the hated I59). Generally allow time and hope they get it 'fixed' by Wednesday as I heard one prediction (still won't be great but not as bad) I might try hitting US231 and down but that would be a fair amount out for you also. Depending on what my dog racing friends in B'ham say though ....
Looks to me like best idea coming South I65 may be to get off.... EDIT: It has been pointed out that the original route I drew has a low underpass (with no height sign on it), so map is modified to: Exit 65S at Walker Chapel Road (Hwy120) E, E on Black Creek Road (124) and South on Hwy 79/Vanderbilt Road/Tallapoosa, and get back onto I20E... updated pic...approx 8 miles...
The other way would be get off and come down US31 just below that but that could be excellent or horrible with lights etc. Also getting on is a bit @#$@#ed
Double check before you leave but it looks open today both on google maps and aldot. So just the normal chaos from the construction now
coming from Memphis on I-22, and will hit I-65 South to I-20. Reviewing the DOT website it appears the interstate connection is open. Can anyone confirm?
