I am thinking about selling a clean title CBR that I bought a few years ago, and intended to use it for the track only. Life with kids in sports got in the way and it has not been getting used. I did not want to sell it, but I think it is time as I just don't see me getting back to the track anytime soon and someone should get some use out of it. Before I put it up, I want to make sure that I have it ready for the sale. I have all of the stock parts still, but never got it re-titled for me. The title is signed over to me. If someone wants it for street use again, how does that need to be handled? Any help is appreciated.

    thanks,

    Steve

    Illinois title?
There is a spot on the bottom of original titles that require the signature of the seller and buyer at the time of sale. If you already signed this section then you may have to go through the process of getting a clean (as in blank) title in your name.
If you didn't sign the bottom section but the seller did, then it's up to the buyer if they will take their chances with an older title that has exchanged hands more than once. Usually as a buyer I haven't had a problem except for the slight sideways glance at the DMV as to why has it been 10 years from the date of sale that I'm looking to surrender the title and retitle and register now.

It may help if you have the original bill of sale (if you ever drew one up with the seller) that you can provide the new owner as a paper trail of ownership without retitling. And then provide a bill of sale of this purchase as well.

Michigan. I did sign it and have bill of sale also, just never planned to street it. Thanks for the response.

In Michigan, if the buyer (you) signs the title, you have no option other than to go to the Secretary of State, pay the taxes on the $1,000 you paid for it (wink wink, nudge nudge), transfer the title in your name, and resell it.

OK thanks. Do you know if there are any extra fees with doing it 2 years later. I would attempt to ask SOS but you know how that would go, this is probably much easier.

I believe there is a $10-20 "late fee" that is tacked on if a title isn't transferred within 15 or 30 days of sale stated on the title.

Yep, I found the title and looks like it will not be a big deal. Thanks for the help.
