I know US129 Photos is allowed to go to pretty cool spots, and I'm assuming not everyone is allowed to go where they go, correct? Would my friend be allowed to go on the other side of hot pit lane next to the straight to photograph bikes? What about other viewing areas/stands at other corners that require access from other gates? I've never paid attention to where people do and do not go whenever I've been at barber so I can't answer his questions.
MY OPINION: The new fencing kind of sucks for photos. So over the bridge is now kind of obstructed as is turn #1. You can get some over just inside the gate to the right but again the fence gets in the way for the chicane. You cannot get inside the fence without credentials is my understanding. The safety fence is great for protecting against airborne Indy cars but not photos. Yes on the walkway between hot pit and the track. Yes from the tower but you need a long lens to get anything. In short even a talented photographer with great gear will not match US129. But it is fun and if they did the museum last I knew pictures are fine and the new bridges over the track might provide some excellent opportunities (have not had time to get down and check it out yet).
Oh the handicapped pad in #11? might be good still for some not sure how the fence comes into play there as I did not try.
