Hi guys, I got the bump to I this past Monday at ACC (big thanks to Coach Danny for all the help!). Now that I am in I, I understand that there are some strict tech requirements. Right now, my bike is 90% set up with safety wire, besides the drain plug. Am I safe to just use RTV on the plug or does it need to be wired? Will I get a hard time at tech since they won't be able to tell if it actually has RTV or not?

Really excited about the bump and now just want to make sure my bike is good to go. Thanks in advance for all the feedback!

if you have the know how safety wire it and the filter that and engine ice or water and wetter your ready for A . if you have a flat Allen drain plug. buy a pre drilled plug like moto d sells

do not silicone all the threads!!!!

we looking for a dab or big dot on the edge between the bolt and the case or oil pan. filter, fill plug and drain plug

    - The big one for Intermediate is flushing your cooling system of Ethylene Glycol coolant and going to water wetter, engine ice (polypropylene glycol), etc.

    - You may either safety wire or RTV. As was stated above, we are looking for a visible DAB of silicone on the oil filler cap, oil filter and oil drain. Use a visible color. No kidding I had a rider come to Tech telling me he put RTV on the inside threads of the filter before tightening (NOT GOOD) because he misunderstood the rule. A viable substitute for safety wire is a hose clamp around the filter, that is safety wired so that when you put the clamp on, the filter can't turn. On the drain plug, i have a removable clip on the drilled bolt...that way you can remove them without having to safety wire all over again. Lastly, do yourself a favor and avoid the K&N filter controversy by NOT USING THEM.

    - SOME riders have bikes with so much plastic, that you can't see the plug. FOR ME, if I see it on the filler cap, and the bike looks well kept, and the rider tells me UP FRONT "yes, I know you can't see it, but I promise it's there" I have at times taken his word for it. But that's individual tech preference.

    - LASTLY, you need a back protector. Congrats

Thanks for all the feedback, much appreciated! In regards to the K&N Oil filter....what is this controversy? I just bought a K&N Oil Filter but have not put it on yet...

The current oil filter has a hose clamp on it and that is safety wired. It looks like all I need to do is put a dab on the drain plug and filler cap and I should be good to go. The bike already has Engine Ice in it, so should be all set there as well.

K&N recalled a few oil filters. the welds failed around the wrench bolt that is welded on top of the filter.

safety wiring the oil filler cap saved my ass before. skip the RTV and just safety wire everything.

If you're going to be at the track frequently, I'd just go straight to safety wire where you can.

A dab makes you compliant for Intermediate, but you will need to wire it to move to A. So when you get a chance, go ahead and set it up.

Just do an internet search on K&N Oil filters; there is a TON of controversy. SOME trackday orgs have already banned them (Not STT). If you haven't put it on yet, suggest you get an OEM one.

IF YOU DO USE IT, make SURE YOU DO NOT USE THE BOLT TO TIGHTEN IT. A lot of people also had issues over-torquing and the filter cracking and separating at the base....

Congratulations, Intermediate is almost twice as hard as fast Novice and it doesn't have to do much with speed but with having the mental maturity to accept being passed by a faster rider and not engage in nonsense dangerous braking duels. Race the track and it's lines, not the guys on it on the first couple of intermediate track days.
I bought a predrilled bolt, no two ways about it, it almost installs itself.
