I have never been to track day and do not know anyone that goes to track days.
I would like to go sometime and gain experience and improve street skills.
When places say they rent a garage, what does that mean? Is that something you use during the day or do you keep your bike there overnight to keep it safe? I would likely be traveling out of town and stay at hotel.

do you all get any type of insurance to cover you or your bike for track day?

    thanks for any advice

    Welcome!

    Where are you from?

Some tracks, like Putnam, have garage bays to rent. Some people like those to set up their pits. Other people prefer bringing a canopy to set up under. Neither are strictly necessary but shade is a nice thing to have on a hot track day.

The track is usually a pretty secure place to leave your bike. Often times people staying at hotels will leave their bike overnight and lower their canopy over it. Or camp at the track, most tracks allow camping (Putnam does not I don’t believe).

I have heard anecdotally that many insurance companies will cover track damage because trackdays are not competitive timed events but rather rider improvement courses. If you’re wondering about this you may want to check with your specific insurer.

Welcome to the fun places that rent the garages you use for the day normally have a air hose and a 15 amp power for warmers or fans ect.
camping is always fun trackside hanging with like minded poeple are fun nights.

Must haves are water and plenty of it cold.
suit boots gloves undamaged fullface helmet.
    Lawn chair
bike extra 5 gallons of gas (lots tracks have gas but it is normally $$$)
    shade is good.

nearly all tracks are secure so you can leave you bike over night if you chose to hotel it

I see a lot of you ride with one piece suits. My problem is that I have a chest of 40.5 inches and 29" waist. Any one piece suits I see online have 36 inch waists paired with 40-41 inch chests. Do people have these custom fit? or just wear a waist too big?

If you are of non-standard proportions then custom is probably your only choice for 1pc. If there’s a place local to you that has some suits in stock it might be a good first step to go try some on.

Otherwise, if you’re first getting started in track riding and are unsure whether it is something you want to spend the money on a custom suit for, a 2pc will get you started.

the waist size in a one piece are not super important. I wear padded shorts under me suit and a back protector. is takes up some space. no need for the waist to hold it up the shoulders do that

So I read about taping up mirrors, turn signals but do you also tape over your rear brake light?

So are people who are track riding (going to track days) using dedicated track bikes or do some people just bring their everyday bike to use at the track?
    thanks

Most start with street bikes, then depending on how they like it, street bikes with track bodywork, then trackbikes.

Definitely check with your insurance provider on your coverage

I wouldn't waste money on a garage but rather buy an EZUp. Also, another poster mentioned the track being a secure place to leave your bike overnight but I dont agree. If you're going to leave your things at the track while your away in a hotel then pack it up into an enclosed, locked trailer.
