Barber - 10/9/2017 - New Track

    Driving to Barber for the 10/9 track day during the vintage weekend. I've never ridden this track. What should I know before heading down about the track or camping?

    Don't over do it on the front straight, turn one can sneak up on you.

    What group are you riding in? Best advice about going to a new track is probably to get a coach to tow you around for a session or so. If you are in novice, you'll be working with coaches for the first for sessions and have coaches available for the rest of them. Make sure you ask for help if you need it, we've got an entire staff that loves to help, but we can't read minds. :D

    I signed up for Intermediate. I've been riding in advanced at Road America for several years now on my 600rr.
    I plan on grabbing a coach right away in the morning to learn the track lines and enjoy the day.
    RA is very scooter friendly. Should I bring my scoot to get around Barber?

    Scooter...absolutely yes. As far as camping goes, there is lots of power available at Barber on the lower, middle and upper levels. There are restrooms on the lower and middle (not sure about the upper, I've never pitted up there) but I think there is. There are at least showers onsite also. Food is available on the middle level from a carrying service, as well as gas pumps. Barber doesn't allow charcoal grills in the paddock, but gas grills are OK. NO pets are allowed and you must go to registration for a wrist band for admittance. If you are there before 9 or 10 pm and get a wristband, you can come and go 24/7. If not, registration opens in the morning a little before 7am. I can't remember the cost for electric per day if camped, but you can also bring and use a generator....just make sure it's a quiet one or you might make some new friends.. :D. Holler if you have any other specific questions...someone will jump in to help. And by the way, welcome and plan on the event being sold out....almost everyone that lives North of the Main/Dixon line comes to Barber in October....it's always a great event.

    $35 for camping and $35 for power.

    That’s what they charged me for one day earlier this month. Not sure if price structure changes as you add days.

    Scooter is ok inside the paddock.If you want to go out on the access roads, it needs to be plated and you must wear a helmet if I am not mistaken.

    The Camping fee is if you put a tent up on top of the Hill.... No charge just to go down in the Pits.... Mums the word...

    That’s good to know. I told the lady in the office that I was blowing up an air mattress in the bed my truck and she kindly informed me that it would be an additional $35 to what I already paid for power.

    You are gonna love Barber. It doesn't have the long straights you are used to at RA; it's very technical, with huge elevation changes, off camber and blind turns. The place is truly a park (landscaping, statues/art, etc). If you are in I, just make SURE you tell the lead or one of the other coaches at pit out that you are new to the track, and when we cut everyone else loose after a couple laps, stay behind the coach and he'll lead you a few laps till you get your bearings. PS if you can come a day early or a day late, stay and visit the largest motorcycle museum in the WORLD.

    Read an pervious FAC as there is little things like no glass bottles in the pit. Generally they are very hospitable but it is a nice place that they try to keep that way (still laugh that the restrooms in the pits have gojo dispensors)

    Thanks for the suggestions. I plan on driving down from WI on Friday. I'll attend the vintage festival Saturday and Sunday, then ride on Monday. I'll be sure to check out the museum while there. I made a quick visit a few years ago, but only had about 2 hours to walk around. Hoping to dedicate a little more time this go round. It will be my first time on this track and I'd like to make the most of it as an experienced rider without trying to set any records. My dad is joining me and we typically ride in different classes (Him I; Me A). This will be the first time in the same class.

    Well camping at Vintage Fest is going to be much different than the trackday... There won't be room for you in the Pits I know that for a fact...

    Put a day aside for the museum.
    A fast walk through will take half a day.

    shawshank103......if you took a quick tour through the museum a few years back, you are going to be really surprised. They did a HUGE expansion and it is almost double in size from what it was the last time you were there!
