Moving to Hawaii and after some cursory research it unfortunately looks like Laguna would be the closest paved track? Not good.

Might have to take up motocross. Anyone ever live in Hawaii? I'm assuming there are no paved tracks on any of the islands...

Should be good for some adventure riding (planning on picking up a Tiger 800 XCx).

They used to have Hawaii Raceway. I raced there in 94. Fun little track. Closed and demoed now I believe. No other tracks on any of the islands now that I know of.

Lol. Already into diving, will be doing that and some DS riding. I'll be on Oahu.

I read an article about the top 10 motorcycle roads around the world and The Hana Highway on Maui made the list. Will have to island hop for that one but will definitely check it out. Sixty miles and 600 turns. They said it looks like Jurassic Park out there....

Road to Hana is nice in the 'off season' on Maui. Police have blue lights always lit, if that helps. I had the opportunity to move out to Haweewee, but passed on account of no tracks.

Made it about half way down the Hana Hwy in a car, turned around because of the traffic. Pretty much poking along and stop and go for the distance we made.

Jurassic Park was actually filmed at the Kualoa Ranch in Oahu. I was just there. Didn't do any riding, though.

Solid blue lights on top of their car on all the time. You can see them long before you pass.

Worst drivers on Earth live in Hawaii. There's a road called Tantalus on Oahu. If you ask any of the local riders they know where it is. There is an off road park on the north shore of Oahu as well. You will get board really quick riding on the Island of Oahu. I have rented several times out there and will probably never do it again. I have a friend that has a couple scooters and we just go riding around town on those instead. Yes the cops have blue lights that are on all of the time but there are plenty that are completely unmarked. You will discover that surfing is the most difficult sport on the planet unless you already know. How much time have spent there? The locals are not very friendly to outsiders from the mainland so be forewarned if you are getting mean mugged at certain beaches. They love to fight and are usually in numbers.

    Damn dude....

I'm a pretty good snowboarder, so hoping to pick it up pretty quick. Guess I'll just have to suck it up till I get a job somewhere where there are tracks again.

Snowboarding and surfing have nothing in common beside the fact that they are both board sports. Surfing is mostly reading the ocean and what it is going to do. Snowboarding requires almost no upper body strength. Surfing on the other hand takes extreme cardio and upper body strength. Don't think you're a tough guy and go shirtless either. You will tear your nipples off from rubbing on the board paddling.

I really hope you have actually gone out there and spent some time before you decide to actually MOVE there. I would never live there but my decision is based on years of going back and forth. I several friends and family out there who are all good people but I would never LIVE there in a million years. My mainlander midwestern ass is staying right here.

Ive been to Honolulu quite a bit. besides hot Japanese girls and strippers and tourists.... not much there. I like the first two. My daughter learned how to swim there by strippers that were all staying in the condo building where we stay.

Upper body strength is not an issue, and was just assuming that surfing requires good balance as does snowboarding. Moving there for a job that I can't pass up, don't know if I'll stay there permanently however....

You forgot about the hookers. Just walk down Kuhio Ave after 10pm. They hang out by the ATMs. I love sitting outside the Hyatt on Waikiki Beach at night. Have a beer, watch the hookers, watch the pimps and watch the Japanese Johns. It's very entertaining

theres no track riding in hawaii but there are a lot of pretty twisty roads. as someone said before, tantalus is pretty much the go to spot for any sort of knee dragging. we'd post up on a few corners and go back and forth. theres also a smaller road in the kailua area called 13 turns. forget the real name, but its fun too. going for cruises around the island is still fun. they have a dirt bike track, i've never been to it, but seeing as how theres only one on the island, i cant imagine its anything other than packed always.

to be honest, some of the worst drivers i've seen are on that island, and with all the tourists as well, i feel like there's definitely an increased risk riding there as opposed to around the midwest.

there's so many other hobbies you can and should get into there however, like others have said before, surfing is definitely a thing to at least try to learn, and if all else fails, spearfishing, snorkeling and diving are all pretty top notch there. also you can bow hunt boars there, in like one spot. 2 if you can get on military bases.

So yeah, traffic is really bad here and the lanes are pretty narrow. I checked out Tantalus road last weekend. Lot's of 180 degree switchbacks. Reminds me of Tail of the Dragon but with major elevation changes. I actually much preferred 72 along the South East coast. Jaw dropping views coming around the corners and has some decent twisties....
