So do to my normal track bike grenading and not having money to fix it due to being in the process of buying a house... I’m considering switching my motocross bike (15 yz450) into a supermotard so I can still do some track days. I was hoping some folks could give some insight on set up etc, I know you can’t take them on every track... which ones can I? Recently moved to PA from Louisiana so NJMP is my “home” track. Also I have been riding advanced for the past few years can I still do that on a motard or do I have to bump down a group? I know closing speeds are a factor.

when we rode supermoto prepped bikes, with STT, we rode in Intermediate to "help" with the closing speeds. if your bike does not already have wheels, brakes, catch cans ect... you "could" fix your normal track bike for about the same costs.

understand that dirt bikes only have one quart of oil capacity in their cases/gear box, and when held wide open for long periods (big tracks), they will spin the oil right off the clutch pack, and burn them up pretty quickly. also, you will need a catch can system for coolant, and oil overflow because, they will push fluids out at high revs.

they are fun but, you need to understand, there are drawbacks, and costs associated with those drawbacks. one them is the same thing you are going through now... engine go boom, more sooner, than later.

my avatar is me jumping the urbancross jump at the Waterford hills Detroit supermoto ama event.

    your results may vary. Ski

I agree with skidooboy. It might cost you just as much to fix ur bike than to covert to supermoto. What tracks do you normally go to? I switched from roadracing to supermoto racing about 13 years ago and never looked back. I have no interest in big bikes on the track anymore and enjoy $40 track days at supermoto tracks. Once and a blue moon I will race and ride at a bike track with my motard but I try to keep it to smaller tracks so I don't blow my sh!t up.

This also seems like a good choice, overall!
