Hey guys, I have a 2008 Gsxr 600, just did the 06 r6 throttle tube swap. The throttle currently will go wide open with easy but the recoil is just not there like it use to be with the stock tube. The recoil is so slow that I don't think that it will pass tech.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Is the outside of the reel dragging on the housing? Try sanding it down a bit for more clearance.

A long shot.....but if you are running a bar end of any kind (even lever protector) check to make sure the bar end isnt tightened so tight it is pinching the grip. This happened to me one morning at Tally. I was messing with the bar ends the night before and tightened them up. Drove the bike to tech.....and he ripped the throttle to make sure it would snap back and it did not ----------BBBRRAAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP, a quick flick of the throttle by hand and it closed. Kind of startled us both to be honest. Everyone else was like "WTF.................................note to self.........stay clear of that guy!!!!"

Just my .02 based on experience.

Ohhh yeah. Good call. I've had a similar issue with a bar-end mirror rubbing the throttle grip.

Alright, thanks guys! I hope its that simple to fix hah

I should have known to look for that, I went to tech at grattan and my bar end had bent down from my canyon dancers. Tech guy (Adam) twisted the throttle and it didnt move back haha awkward moment for sure.

Might sand down the reel a little just for good measure as well

Well, if the bar end is the culprit, don't bother sanding. Plenty of folks do the tube swap and I've only ever seen people cutting notches out of the reel for it to fit properly in the Suzuki housing.

My R6 throttle tube caused the same issue when installed on my gsxr600k7.

I dremeled out the small portion inside the housing that the reel was rubbing against. Works perfectly now.

Well that was for the SV650 housing. It's a bit different for a GSXR, I think.

    I assume you've read all this? http://www.gsxr.com/38-technical-faqs/85278-r1-r6-throttle-mod-tutorial.html

Yeah, so I had it right the first time, but they recommend modifying the housing. I imagine both would work, but I'd dremel the housing for the sure thing.

Alright so I made sure the grips and bar ends were clear of the clip on, and did some light sanding around the reel where the cables are retained. Still a slow return.

Yes I have seen that tutorial.

Which area of the housing needs to be trimmed? I didn't see any signs of abnormal wear to indicate the culprit.

Here is some more pictures information.

During the second post...the dermal/ shaving/ cutting is discussed in detail. I would imagine that the Honda housing will be slightly different from the Suk....but it offers a point/ view that you may have overlooked or was unaware of.

I think its in your reel housing. If you didn't have this issue prior to performing this modification......then its safe to eliminate anything further than what you've touched to this point.

Alright guys, so I just got back to messing with this throttle tube. So I cracked open the housing and saw where the reel was rubbing a little on the housing. I knocked those areas down some, reassembled, no dice still no recoil. Next I took the reel out and filed some chamfers onto the OD of the reel. Filed out some more of the housing, reassembled. still no recoil.
Any more help would be greatly appreciated...feeling pretty defeated by a stupid throttle tube hah

My honest suggestion as a guy who has been in your shoes (different scenerios).

Start over. Pull the tube off and put your OE tube back on. Lets start fresh.

Once you have everything back together before you started this journey.....see if it works. Give it a few pulls and confirm. Not just one.

Doing this will eliminate any stock parts that may be failing. Once you are comfortable with the OE.......so comfortable that you would take it through tech, and hit the track.... start the disassembling process.

Now lets put the R6 tube on.
Did everything line up like it did with the OE?
    Any cables binding?

Like in Chess....Sometimes you have to reset or move backwards just to advance to find the result youre looking for.

Before I started this venture, the OE throttle would snap back nice and quick.

Everything appears to be the same fit and function other than the lack of recoil. When I have the housing open with the r6 tube assembled on, I did notice that the "Seat Side" cable gets a lot of slack in it when rotating the throttle to wide open. So I tightened the the cable up, slack goes away, but the recoil is even worse with the cable adjusted.

So I guess I am going to go out and get a sanding drill bit so i can get in the housing and do some fine tuning. Also contemplating ordering a new gsxr tube and living with the lack of full throttle on the track ahah

If the additonal sanding doesn't work...let me know. I have a R1 throttle i can send you. Not as short of a pull as the R6...but no modification is needed.

I just swapped my OE (K6 1000) with a R1 tube and it took all of 5 minutes.

Got it! Took alot of machining out this one particular area where one of the screws threaded into. But she snaps back now as it should so I am happy!

Thank you for all of the help!
