Do you guys know what type of paint the manufacturers use when screen printing on leather?

I have access to all kinds of screen printing capability, perhaps you could offer this as a service if we co-develop the paint and process.

Why not just use regular screenprint ink?

I would think that you'd want something that, once dry, would have similar characteristics to the leather: some stretch, water resistance, and still maintain a bond to the leather. Also, the ink would have to be very opaque and have bright pigments to be able to read against black leather.

There are lots of screen print inks, none of which I am familiar with. I don't know how to narrow it down.

Oh, and I will NEVER order anything from Alibaba.

    Response

    Hi Tom,
I have yet to do any screen printing on any substrate. I understand the process but am not versed with the products used.
I do use specific leather paints to do the artwork and coloring of suits.
Many of the colors need multiple layers to cover so I don't know how that would work with screen printing. Maybe a different paint or ink would be used.
I am more than willing to speak with you about the possibilities.

    Thanks, Dan

It's been a while but I did work in a screen print shop for a few months after school. I don't have any memory of working with leather but I know we didn't have different kinds of ink for different materials. Maybe the shop I work for didn't do leather at all I don't remember. Seems to me that regular ink should be fine

How are custom Logos made for screen printers? I would like to add my logo to my jacket.

    airbrush

if you don't want a leather collage sewn you can go with an airbrush logo directly onto the suit or jacket. just pic out a good T-shirt artist with a steady hand and good eye. there was a guy set up next to me at the GNF one year shooting the color back on suits and doing logos. he was using an automotive type paint that worked really well. I think he called it Zem ? or that's what it sounded like to me. hope that helps. bill and darethea

IMG_0227.jpg IMG_0500.jpg IMG_0500.jpg We still offer old school hand cut leather lettering sewn on that will last until the cows come home and bring friends with them . they are still 8.00 a letter on a background ( so pick out two colors and about any style) . we're seeing a lot of this printed stuff not lasting a season or go through a good cleaning. see our work @ Barnacle Bill's Leather Repair on Facebook or www.racingleather.com .
