Going to my first track day soon, need a suit. Have an opportunity to buy one for $25 plus shipping, guy thinks about another $20ish for shipping. How much is it to rent, and where do I look?

25 bucks? what kind of suit for 25 bucks? I have never seen any type of suit that cheap, can't even buy blue jeans that cheap.

Where are you doing your first track day.....in the Northern or Southern Region? If Southern, you can rent them at the track from STT (Trevor Sadler is our Southern Region Director) and is on here as Mastermindtrev. I'm not sure of rental prices, but you can contact him. They have a variety of different sizes available, and should be able to get you one in the correct size for the day. A properly fitted suit is important so that the armor doesn't move around if it's too big on you. Northern Region, I would say contact Nick Amelio....Gunshow Nick and inquire about suits.

And BTW, I'd be concerned about a suit that is being sold for $25.....especially if it's been crashed in and repaired. Was it repaired properly or are you just asking for trouble? I obviously can't answer that for you, but it would certainly be something to check out beforehand.

I know I wouldn't trust my rear with a 25 dollar suit, I don't have the best or most expensive, but I would definitely be weary of a $25 suit. Don't forget about boots and gloves as well, must be gauntlet style gloves, and a proper helmet.

I'm doing my track day in Michigan, so I'd have to say North.
Guy here says it was professionally patched up.
I dunno if I'm likely to do another track day, mostly trying to get through as cheap as possible. He's 3 hours away, might go check it out in person...
My Harley boots should work for footwear, and I have full face helmets, but not gauntlet style gloves either.
I'll look gunshow Nick up. Thanks!

Just to be clear, does this mean that non-steel toe work boots (over the ankle, of course) are sufficient for a novice group rider? I am bringing a friend on his first track day and just want to make sure that he won't hit any snags related to gear.

That type of work boot would work in a pinch....not ideal for sure, but acceptable. And a suggestion if wearing lace up boots. Once he has the boots on and laced up, he probably needs to tape around the entire upper part of the boot. The last thing that you would want to happen is to have one of the laces catch on a heel guard, a foot peg, a shifter lever, brake pedal, etc. Novice riders have enough things to do, learning the body, brake, shift.....look, lean, believe criteria.
