Hi, I'm looking to purchase a one piece suit, but I'm a bigger guy. I know I could always go custom, but I'd rather try to find an off the rack suit that fits first. Pilot offers their suits in 52/54US, so I'm considering them. Does anyone have any opinions on how well their suits are made, or how well they crash? Any other suit recommendations? For reference I'm 6'2" and about 260lbs right now, but I do plan on trying to drop some weight. I'd really appreciate any advice you guys could give me. Thanks!
I wore a Pilot 2 piece (full circumference zipper) suit for about 5 or 6 years and crashed twice in it. It held up very well. I would certainly recommend them as a good quality suit. I had it repaired after one of the crashes, but it was cosmetic damage only....no seam our zipper failures.
I can't lend any info on the Pilot suits, but I did see where the Joe Rocket Speedmaster 5.0 2 piece leather suit was available in larger sizes and praised by folks in need of larger sizes in the review section for that particular suit on STG's website. Reasonably priced as well. I am on the hunt for a suit myself, about to return my recently ordered Cortech Latigo 2.0 RR suit in an XL, and exchange for a 2XL - the biggest size in that suit, and I'm only 6'1" 225 lbs.
I've been happy with the suits that I've used from Joe Rocket, and now Alpinestars. I'm 6'1, 230 pounds. I bought a 46/56, and I can barely shoehorn my fata$$ into it. But, that has given me reason to stop eating sugar, and drag my butt into the gym 5 days a week. I figure that I'll be healthier, PLUS, from what I've read 7 pounds is worth about 1HP! So, I'll be healthier, and my bike will be faster. Anywho, be mindful to either try on the suit that you intend to buy, or be very mindful of your measurements and each manufacturer's size guide! I've noticed quite a difference between manufacturers. Nik
If you are going to spend $1500+ on a suit, you might as well get a custom made one that will fit with no issues. I got a used suit on eBay. It is an AStars suit 48/58 and it fits ok. I’m 6’2” and weigh 240lbs. It is a tad tight when I stand up straight, but on the bike it feels nice.
My personal experience says that original leather is like your second skin. I mean you will be wearing something leather whether it is a full leather suit, gloves, boots or jacket. You feel comfortable. I guessed that when I got an original leather bike riding jacket from https://motospeeds.com/. That is amazing and provide me with complete safety and comfort. Then I also bought a professional race suit, gloves and boots. All these things provide me lot of benefits during riding. I recommend just motospeeds motorcycle gear.
