Michelin Power Super Sports?

    at Gingerman I talked with a Michelin tech He was very firm on the pressures which have been posted incorrectly. 30 front and 27 rear. I tried the rear at 23.5 (most places said 22 I figured that just seemed low) and boy it felt like I was riding on water balloons. After the psi change, wow, what a tire it's going to be a while before I change something different.

    regular powers? not 2ct's? I had those my first year, at least once day the rear would step out or the front slide. Every day at least once. The 2ct's were better more planted but still lacked grip at the apex and exiting. These Mich SS are really nice and provide lots of feedback.

    That's what I heard the tech's at ACC were telling people. I think I'll try 27 at the next event. Then again, at 140 lb's I'm not really compressing the rear tire very much to begin with...

    I've tried everything from 22-27 cold in the rear on them. 27 psi cold seemed to be best for me. The rear was sliding on me coming out of the last corner at ACC North yesterday at the end of sessions. That was at 25 cold with a 600 GSX-R in 3rd gear.

    22R cold is the pressure for the Power Cup. I doubt its the same on the Supersport

    That's at least what I've heard on the YouTube overviews, most notably on STG's with the Michelin representative. I'll definitely try 27 next time and maybe that will help with my rear end issues.
     
  8. Yea, regular powers. I have power lures on my track bike, but that engine has been out of action this whole year, so I'm running my street bike that has pilot powers.

    When I ran pures last year, I was just a slow novice and never experienced grip problems obviously.

    I'm definitely picking up a set of these for the next blackhawk track day over labor day.

    No warmers, fast Int. I could run Advanced but ran I this weekend.

    well if the tire is lower psi, you should feel it squish around but stay planted, it's not a slide feel more like squeezing a water balloon, how the water would move around.

    I'm curious how these tires end. Some provide feedback telling the rider I'm done, some just go without warning. Anyone use a set up yet?

    Also for what it's worth. I bought a set of super sports my last weekend. The tire guy told me to set the rear at 27 and the front at 30. I asked about the lower pressure and he said that michelin recommends 27. I had seen the STG vid and according to the vid and the guy who works for michelin the rear tire pressure should be set at 22. So I set mine at 22. I had no issues. Tires had tons of grip. They seem to be wearing as the should.

    Maybe I'm misattributing the sliding to bad pressures, I've never used up a set of track tires. It's possible that is what is happening to me, yesterday was my 5th or 6th day on them, down to the wear bars on the right side. If that's the case and they are at end of life, they let you know rather progressively.

    that's really strange t_town_tom , I would appriciate a tire expert to answer this conversation, I talked with the STG Michelin guy this weekend at Gingerman that said STG has the pressures wrong. I'll throw my hands up on this and leave it for the tire pro's.

    True and that's what it felt like for me - very planted with a solid cushion. It was really only when I reached the angle where the compounds interchange that I had sliding issues. But I'll give 27 a try next month as well just to see the difference.

    I run the power cups as well as the power one's at 30f and 27r.
    That worked well for me and the tire wear was great at Grattan ( both with warmers as you know).

    At the heat of Gingerman for bike night it looked like they got a bit too hot. But it wasn't too bad.

    I've never had it happen before, but this past weekend at ACC, my rear tire was really shredding itself silly on the sides. Turned out the tire pressure was way too high.

    I had set it cold in the morning at 27 (as indicated on the little card handed out by Rob at the Racer Cafe) and have been setting them that way all season; then checking them at lunch, and usually backing out a couple of pounds to a hot pressure of 30.

    Well, turns out, that card might be wrong? David Grey was super helpful after a frantic email with pictures about why are my tires getting destroyed - to advise backing them down to 25 - off track. I was a little nervous to drop them quite so low, so I backed out pressure a couple pounds, saw that it started to correct the problem, backed out another pound, and as it was my last session, noted just how much more grippy they were, and felt really good. So, despite the recommended 30/27 cold recommendation, I'll be setting the rear lower than that from now on, to avoid wearing out the rear prematurely.

    Haven't had any problems with the front whatsoever.

    I just changed from the Dot Power Ones, still had a couple sets, to the cups.
    This is what worked well for me. Upper I group. They gripped very well.

    Front 29
    Rear 22
