Anyone from the Chicago area going to Barber March 9-10 and have extra room in their trailer? I might be able to borrow a pickup from work, but the gas mileage sucks. I was hoping to split expenses with somebody.
Thinking about getting a trailer hitch installed on my Eclipse and using a U-Haul motorcycle trailer. A little worried about the transmission, though. I'm going to have to decide soon.
That would cost over $1500! I was hoping to borrow a van from work, but it won't be available that weekend.
Gotcha... Its a pretty flat haul until you get to TN.... A small trailer would do OK but you need to be more concerned with your brakes than the tranny IMO...
Is your eclipse a 4cyl or a 6cyl and does it have a hitch? your car should be able to pull since you are not really pulling too heavy of a load and it will be mostly highway travel. Wish I could go with you since I am local, but the cost of the trip/food/trackday will impact my TD allocation budget here locally
Why is it so much to rent a van? I have been debating on just buying a truck or renting a truck from some place like Uhaul. Is it really that much for a weekend rental?
4 cylinder. No hitch yet, I would have to get one. I just couldn't wait to start the track season with my new track bike. I figured I got to make it to Barber at least once.
A pickup or cargo van from U-Haul is $1.09 a mile in addition to $19.95/day. Trucks are more. Price may vary by location. Buying is not an option for me. I have nowhere to keep it.
Yeah, I purchased it as soon as it was available. I was just waiting to figure out transportation because I was hoping to borrow the van from work. Doesn't look like that will happen, though. Time for plan B.
Enterprise rent-a-car has pickups (chevy Colorado or dodge Dakota or similar) for 59.99/day and uhaul has small trailers for about 15-20. If I win the ride right ill split the costs and gas with you. I'm in Dayton oh, which is on the way.
I think I'm going to take the pickup from work. It will probably cost at least an extra $100 in gas, but the back seat should be comfortable enough to sleep in so I don't need a hotel, and I don't need to buy a trailer hitch for my Eclipse or worry about towing too much weight. So, anyone need a ride? The pickup can fit two bikes, and I wouldn't mind splitting fuel costs.
Sorry, not quite on the way. An extra 2.5 hours or 150 miles each way. I'll be taking 65 through Indianapolis.
I would have thought 57 would have been quicker, that's how I'm going. Seems like a lot of northerners are taking over!
An extra 30 minutes or 30 miles for me, according to Google. Is this the annual migration of the northern track rider? The riding season is too short up here.
Enterprise is the way to go. Used an enterprise van to pick up my track bike from southern IN and it only cost me $59. I probably put 1000 miles on it. Pretty good deal in my opinion.
65 is straight shot south to get to Barber There is a hotel right by the track that's cheap-ish (70 or 60 a night) that would be way nicer and warmer than your truck.
