?

Would you prefer an all female trackday or a mixed event?

trying to get my GF on a bike. I booked her a spot in the MSF course as an early anniversary present. I know she'd be more than willing to do an all lady track day and I think I'd be ok with takin care of her like she has for me a few times. what do you think is a good started bike? a lot of people go with a 600, but i'm just afraid of the weight may be too much and she's also only 5'4" ish. any suggestions ladies?

I just went thru the same scenario. Janelle is 5'4" and she's been coming to the track with me for a couple of years, riding on the bike of my street bike. Did the MSF last fall and got her M class license. We picked up a '08 Ninja 500 with only 800 miles. Did about 300-400 miles last fall on the street to get comfortable with shifting. Beginning of this year, she won the raffle at the Schaumburg Dianese for a free track day, did her first track lady track day in July at Grattan, luv'd it and just finished her 5th track day at ACC on Monday.
She's now wanting to move up to a 600 to keep up with the boys that are passing her on the straights.

    Suggestion...
Assuming the point is to get more females on track. Have a gals and guys track day but with a female focus everyone has to wear pink, have a pony tail out the helmet and use pink tape. That will keep the biggest male egos out of the way. :jester: Could be fun  Add in a Breast Cancer fund raiser with "booby prizes" to attract more ladies like the Redline guys did for the Wounded Warriors over Labor Day.

I know this might come as a surprise, but believe it or not there are a lot of women who don't like pink. :lmao:

Puck - since she's new new to riding, I think the Ninja 250 is a fine choice to start out with if it's sport riding she's interested in. They hold their value and are always in demand, so that the next season when she wants to move up to something bigger ;) it'll be easy to sell.

    that's what I'm hopin for!

thanks for the tips guys. I was thinkin about trying a 230tt yamaha and making it supermoto, but the straights would be brutal on her then.

we need women in the sport but i dont think an all womens track day would be a great idea .. itd just be a bunch of pits not talking to eachother haha jkjk but i can see how itd be a good idea for maybe a novice group of women to ride alone so u can learn more at your pace and not have to worry about a bunch of testosterone filled guys flyin around passing every straight etc. but intermediate up is probly not great for all women groups .. i dont think stt has enough eachday to even make an all womens group and men ride the rest, but dividing up men and women wont rele do anything inters up in my opinion cause u get bumped to I at the same riding level whether ur a man or woman .. but definitely a novice group womens day and i/a filled with guys and gals wouldnt be bad .. but again i doubt stt even has enough female members to fill a full group of 30 or so riders unfortunately ... on a positive note, one of my friends female coworkers has come forth interested in getting started on the track .. she has a 2006 cbr600 and started riding a few months ago .. i hope to bring her to my first STT event nxt year since i wont be at anymore this year .. im riding at HPT in topeka kansas on 10/19-20 and she is joining to watch so hopefully she catches the bug(track addiction bug that is - not flu) haha

Funny how I started this thread back in 2011 and we now have our own Ladies First Track Day! Kinda redundant now

My goal is to take a few new girls every year, this year I took 3 and they all LOVED it!

And most women I talk to at the event love this track day, it's a totally different atmosphere.

Yes we love riding with the guys too but this is just one track day a year for us women to gather together and bond!!!

I'll post some pics when I get home!

Samm! Why is does it have to be a "novice" group for the ladies?!?!

    THATS sexist! Shame on you!

because the plan is to get more ladies into the sport therefor they will be novice if its their first day .. im sure some ladies wanting to try skip out when they realize the groups are male dominant, i guess due to intimidation? idk .. and if lets say an I or an A female wants to ride with all women she can do N and ride within N rules .. if she doesnt feel like riding modestly then she can do I or A and ride within those rules .. anyways ive seen more ladies in novice at trackdays then I and A combined .. not sexist just facts .. DEFINITELY not sexist lol i like women very very much and respect them as well .. it takes balls to get out there and they do it without them .. more power to them

only other solution would be doing a ladies group, an N/I group for the slower I's, and a I/A group for the faster I's .. all 3 groups within the 30 rider limit or whatever STT's group limit is ... and all riders consenting and acknowledging that they are riding with faster and slower riders that may be of other skill levels and they may get passed(respectfully of course)
