Yeah M4 is the only company still making full systems for these.... Everyone else quit.. Pretty sad... I will call you Juan when the time comes for sure...
Got allot done this weekend..... Finished the tank inside and out... ... Finished the Frame, Sub, Swing Arm and Triples...Fitted the Minicelli Foam for the seat which I used on a few bikes... This stuff is fantastic and is durable as Hell...Like $10 A sheet of 15 x 15 It can be sanded to shape as well... I have the new seals in the engine but need to wait for the 520 Sprocket to get here then its a trip up to Britt Lynn's for some bolt removal...... After that Engine in... Exhaust, Brakes, Clutch and Paint....Forks will be done in Feb...I decided to keep stock ti run Vintage class... Just for you Sheep!! I had to put this Boat Anchor back in to get it off the Jack Stands... I needed those to Balance some tires....More to come in the near future.....
Yes there was.... I mailed a check for another TLR to pick up next Month! LOL... On a serious note just some engine and wiring cleaning... I was able to put the rearsets on and re build the back brake from the dead...engine will go back in next Sunday...
I might have it ready for Barber in March... It Definietly won't be pretty but it should be track worthy...
My build got delayed a bit (tweaked my back like you Marc) but I'm back on track and will be breaking it in this weekend since the weather guessers are predicting temps in the 50's here in St Louis. Got the engine back in the chassis today and the rest of the work is simple reassembly. I just tried to upload some pics but the files are too large, boo. I will be at Barber with it in March, can't wait! 2001 Ducati 748...
Finished the Ducati today and will be riding her for the first time tomorrow, woo hoo! Gonna be 50 degrees tomorrow and then 60 on Saturday so I should get her broken in for the next track day. I'm heading to MSRH for Valentine's Day weekend and might just take her there ahead of Barber in March.
Had a great time on the Ducati today! I'm glad I quit listening to the naysayers on the Ducati forum who said that the 748 is the biggest piece of shit Ducati ever produced and that it would feel like riding a tractor. It absolutely has plenty of power, handles great and I can't wait to take her to the track! Big thanks and a shout out to Mark Sutton (Ducshop) and Ben Fox (Fox Performance) for the tech specs and encouragment to trust the 748's ability to be built for track reliability. Boo to the naysayers on the Ducati forum that I don't even look at anymore. It was unbelievable how negative the responses were to my questions about building a 748 for a track bike. There is one guy on that forum, Gary Kendall, that was helpful and sold me parts at very reasonable prices so a shout out to him as well. Gonna be near 60 degrees tomorrow, woo hoo to global warming!
Doing what I can with what I got..... Got the bodywork Primed and ready for paint... Added the Dzues fastners and home made quick release tabs... Motor should be back in by next weekend...
Looking good Marc! My next project is cleaning up my zx6r, putting the street gear back on, fitting it with new tires and putting it up for sale. I've really enjoyed the 2013 zx6r but since I made it a season and a half with no spills, I'm gonna sell it while it's still worth money, lol! No loan and required insurance equals more track days this season! See how happy my wife is, lol!!!
Bummer! I used copper head gaskets and even though I did it right, I have coolant seepage on both cylinders on the exhaust side. Barely any, no seepage into the oil but I'm pretty sure it's not gonna seal itself up! That's what I get for not wanting to spend $140 on Cometic tri metal gaskets. At least I don't have to drop the engine out of the chassis to replace them but I'm pretty bummed after all the work I've done and now I have to tear it apart again and depending on the weather here may not get to put some test miles on before MSRH February 13th. Glad I have the zx6r for the date.....
It's all part of the love Paul.... Dosent sound too bad... I was told this engine had a major oil leak so I replaced the shaft seal and clutch rod seals.. By the looks of it ot was probaly the fuel pump gasket and dripping black paint looking like oil... I won't find out until I get the second TL.. Pick some parts off and fire up..I'm bringing them both to Barber for working purposes..lol
I know. It's funny how I go from "get rid of it like they told ya" to "I'm gonna prove this bike is worthy" in a matter of a few hours, lol! I put enough miles on it to know it's gonna be a fun track bike and am really more bummed that I can't take her to MSRH. About your TL, my 748 is stained from a fuel leak on the left side of the vertical cylinder so your probably right about that. The fuel pump seal was seeping for what I'd have to guess to be a coule years before someone removed it and let the tank rot by also removing the fuel filler cap and letting it sit for a couple more years. This 748 was a rescue bike and yes, much love has been put into putting her into track worthy condition. I kick myself in the ass for not buying the Cometics now. Hind sight is always 20/20.
Throttle bodies and new tank should get delivered this week. And the weather is warming up so I might get a chance to see it in action!
