Just purchased a set of 1200/1800 slicks from the STT store. I finished the 2006 season on a set of take-off slicks I borrowed from a friend and after an informative discussion with Brian (I'm pretty sure it was him) I decided to keep on with slicks for this year.

Bike is a 2004 GSX-R600. I do not ride in the rain or moist conditions. Tracks I will be riding on are Autobahn, Blackhawk and maybe Putnam and Gingerman.

    Questions:

    1) Recommended Pressures front and rear?

    2) What type of break-in period and process needs to be done?

    3) Should I keep a set of Pilot Powers on hand for cooler temperature days? (please advise on what temp is considered "cool" if slicks are not advisable)

By the way, I have done a search and gathered other information regarding recommendations. I think this topic will answer my and if not other inquiries as well. Thanks in advance everyone!

im not a michelin guy so i don't know the pressures, but as far as break in goes, just make sure to scrub them in good and use warmers.

and yes, keep the powers, they may be good for a nice damp drizzly day where slicks wouldn't be acceptable at all or your cold track day.

IIRC, 30F/29R are the recommended pressures for the Michelin slicks. I actually got better wear at 29F/31R though.

If you don't have warmers already, get some. The slicks & the PRs can easily be ruined in a couple of laps if you push them too hard before they get warmed up. When one side of the rear tire starts to wear more than the other due to more turns in that direction, flip it. Keep doing that before one side gets too bad & they will last quite a bit longer,

Thanks Dennis - and Yes, I do have warmers. That was one of my decideing factors on considering the slicks.

Thanks as well Kylbie. I figured the Powers would be good to keep on hand.

You folks that have used the 1200/1800 combo, have you been satisfied with them? The STT store looks to have a killer deal on them. FWIW, I've been running Pirelli SC2 rear and SC1 front on my R1. Your thoughts please?

    Very good info and thanks.

I want to support STT as well. I've been on and off the track since 1983 with WERA. STT just seems to have their stuff togehter and I've enjoyed every track day I've done with them,,,, well, except for last March at Barber. I don't like hospitals.

Mainly I wanted the hear that the Mich's weren't crap. The last set of Power Races I ran on my ZRX1200 I really did like. The R1 is a totally different beast,,,, way more motorcycle than I am rider. Just want the good shite. I'll be ordering a set tonight for Barber in June. :) I've got a set of Pirelli SC1's to burn up between now and then.

Thanks for your input Healea. [IMG]

BTW, I've got an extra new SC1 rear, 190 if anyone wants it.
