Long story short, I took my 675 to Putnam last week and on the front straight away I was topping out 130ish, riding 2nd, 3rd ok but going through 4th, 5th and 6th way to fast.my bike wouldn't go faster than 132mph (I'm not saying I wanna go faster but I could notice it won't go) maybe a gearing issue? Maybe some fellow riders with 675 who may have had this issue? I'm a little worried thinking there may be something wrong with my 675 I love this bike and thinking something awful with it puts to me on a lot of pressure. Thanks
I'm a bit confused here..................2nd, 3rd, ok but 4th, 5th, and 6th was to fast? or couldn't get to those gears with the short front straight?....I was at Putnam last weekend too gray/gold ish zx6r plastered with logos on it, black and white leathers, what group you ride?
Intermediate. I mean going from 2 to 3 the bike felt very good, tons of power then as I was upshifting I would go through the rest of the gears very fast.
I was braking late and later to see if I would go faster but I was topping out at 132 all the time, 6th gear
That track is not a 6th gear track bro. In 6th gear you are way too tall and the motor is lugging, not building speed as fast. Try that at Road America. I don't think I got out of 4, maybe top of 5th there on my bike.
If I'm reading this right (correct me if I'm wrong) you were getting to redline in 4th to 6th quickly? If that's the case sounds like the clutch is slipping. Clutch slip will often show up in the higher gears worse.
Sounds like the RPMs didn't build if you were hitting 6th gear. I think I was in 4th or 5th topping out around 135ish before T1, never saw 6th gear. I was riding 'I' as well, we probably diced it up a bit. I was on warmers and loved passing in T4 and T8 LOL.
Yes that is correct, way to quickly! First of all I know my bike should be able to go faster, then I shouldn't be hitting 6th gear. Excuse my ignorance so what am I supposed to do about it!
If you had caught when it first happened check the clutch adjustment for proper free play, etc. If you have ridden it much the clutch may be toast and have to be replaced. If you don't know how to check everything yourself you need to take it to a mechanic you trust to check it out. Myself, once a clutch slips I figure adjusting it is only buying me a little time so I replace it. On Suzuki's it's pretty cheap for the parts, no idea what 675 parts run.
Most likely I gotta take it to someone around the area, I have no idea about pricing neither. I'm supposed to go to Grattan 26-27 so I'm short on time to get it fixed now
http://www.napervillemotorsports.com/ is pretty close to you if you want to pay someone else to do it. If at all possible I'd recommend doing it yourself, just to learn your way around your bike. Swapping clutch plates is a pretty easy job, just slightly more advanced than changing the oil.
I think I can do it myself, I would only like to know if that is the problem for sure. But you are correct I'm probably gonna spend a lot more money taking it to a performance shop. Is it ok to ride it as is at least for one more track weekend? Grattan 26-27?
From your description it sounds like it is slipping pretty badly and I would not bet on it lasting much longer at all. Do you have any free play at the clutch lever at all? If you have some then it needs to be replaced now as it is definitely beyond the point of no return. If there is no slack you can try adding some but testing it to see if it helped would be an issue since it only slips in the higher gears.
I don't have any free play on my lever at all! I believe I could be adjusted a bit but like you said I'm just buying time before it's gone completely. I bought this bike about 3 months ago, with 1800 so don't you guys think it's a bit too soon for my clutch to be slipping?
