This is kind of my point, though. I like to be able to really use what the bike has to offer. I just don't have the confidence in my abilities to try to come close to approaching the capabilities of the big bikes. Hell, I can't come close to what the 675 has to offer, but I'm sure closer than I would be on your big ol' CBR :)

I can't see a 1000 being a smart option for a beginner even if you can afford the tires. Think about the young kids comming up in racing, they all start small and work your way up after gaining experiene.

Always better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.

Sure you do! On the straights, anyway. Every straight, wide open throttle. No matter what bike you have, there is always someone that could have taken a turn on the same bike faster than you do.

I took my '12 GSXR 600 and 07 GSXR 1000 to Jennings last weekend.

The 1000 is a whole lotta fun. But yea, unless you're running a good expert/advanced pace and have a good amount of track experience under your belt, I wouldn't recommend a 1000.

Power wheelies can be done on 600s too. Nowadays their lighter and more powerful. I think power wheelies on my 600 are more fun passing slower guys power wheeling on big bikes. :p

Of course pwr wheelies are easier on big bikes. But I get my rush from corner speeds!

Whitney Arnold Run it wide. The grass is a safe place.

In all seriousness, my fastest laps have been on my 600cc!!!! Not my 1000cc.... Even at R.A.

Do they give this advice directly to every Novice 1k rider? I can't count how many laps I spent sitting squarely on my seat in corners following a 1k...slowly negotiate all of these silly turny parts, spot the straight, pin it!

I kid, of course. As frustrating as it is being unable to pass on the only part of the track you're allowed - that's why N is N. Everyone is getting a taste and learning at their pace.

That is how I was when I first started riding my 1k getting used to the power and still in novice. It was only fair since I felt the same way on my SV trying to get past the 600's. Especially annoying in novice when you can't pass in the turns.

That's when you square the corner WAAAY off, and you can pass them on the 'inside' once the turn has exited onto the straight. When you can show them a wheel that quickly after the corner is over, they'll usually let you go into the next corner ahead even if they have the power to pass you back by the end of the straight. :first:

I resolve this issue by being easy to pass everywhere.
