i don't think there's another track with more blind/technical turns than grattan.

    hmmm...

1 - blind (blocked by infield hill)

2 - blind (flat and falling away)

3 - blind (probably the country's most off camber turn to boot)

4 - blindish (again flat and falling away)

5 - blind (until you come back to earth after the jump)

    6 - not blind

    7 - not blind

8 - blindish (don't have much time at exit before you see entrance)

9 - blind (as you crest hill in the middle of the sweeper)

10 - can't remember if you can see through the busstop or not

11 - as blind as fairy tale mice. blindest corner i can think of (follow the big scrape mark up the hill into the apex)

12 - not blind (but bumpy if you're not juuuuust in the right spot)

might as well just close your eyes.

The camera was mounted on the right side of the front fairing on my Mille. Not that much lower than a tank mounted camera really. Grattan is just that Sick!

7 - Somewhat blind until you get over crest, at least at my height.

10 - Blind enough that when you can eventually see the exit you realize that you should have already gotten on the gas.

11 - Fairy Tale Mice... Now that's some funny shi#!

DJ - Blind from looking at Jig's avatar.

DJ, you just had to go post those video's didn't ya? I just had to go and watch the damn things too. Here I was getting over not being able to hit the crack pipe til spring and my withdrawls have subsided to at least a level where I'm not a loon and now that I've watched both of those video's twice I'm going to have to go get professional help. Damn you!!! LMAO

Thanks. I was always impressed with the quality of the videos, considering I had a Helmet Camera Velcroed to the front fairing & connected to a Sony Handy Cam in the tail section. Eventaully though the connector that the Helmet Cam plugs into on the Handy Cam got some slop in it, which is why the Mid-Ohio vid audio Sucks. Then my Handy Cam gave up the ghost. It will play previously recorded video, but it won't record anything anymore. I got a service contract for it a Best Buy, so I have to take it in & get it fixed so I can get some new video on the KTM/NSR next season.

I was actually considering doing some videos myself next summer. I figured it would be fun to share it with family and friends, but most importantly I think it's a great learning tool. I think it's a good way to study what you can change when you are in a relaxed setting at home. Sometimes looking at it later, can make you look at what you can change. So is the helmet can a pain in the butt?? I figured it would be worth the money, because I don't feel right having a big camera just chilling on top of my gas tank.

Tank mounted cameras get in the way when it comes time to tuck. Once you figure out how to set everything up properly, the Helmet Cam is fine. I mounted mine on the bike instead of on my helmet, since I have to look behind me a lot instructing. I like the view from the bike better anyway. It's also a helpful tool for other people that you get on video. On several occassions I showed students video of something that I told them they were doing wrong which they refused to believe until they saw it on tape. Got a bunch of videos for various friends too, which was always appreciated. I made it a point not to make it known to everyone that there was a camera on my bike though. Some people tend to do stupid shi# when they know there's a camera on them.

I have one word for you Pawk (ok two words) Frame Sliders. No matter what you buy invest in them. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

If the forks have already been redone (Racetech or Traxxion), the rear shock is the first thing you want to replace. How much do you weigh?

If you weigh 185 or more, the 636 is a great cheap mod and more than adequate for track days. Since it is basically the same length as the stock shock, I'd recommend getting some different dog bones to raise the rear a bit. You should also drop the forks 10mm.

If you weight less than 185, pick up a GSXR shock and send it to Aftershocks to be resprung and revalved.

OR, get a Penske from Traxxion and be done with it.

For a small amount of money there's a lot you can do to an SV. A modified SV will ride and feel like a completely different bike than a stock SV.

DO get stainless steal brake lines

    DO get Vesrah brake pads

DO get Woodcraft clip-ons and rearsets

DO get rid of the stock seat

DON'T buy a rebuilt GSXR shock from SV Race Shop.

Here's a pick of my old SV with a 636 shock. I really miss that bike.

As for track days, go to GRATTAN! I suspect after a couple weekends at Grattan you'll quit riding on the street and turn the SV into a track only bike.

    Nice work!

Judging by the fact your name, both here and on the book, include K3... I wonder how much of that is autobiographical.

I enjoyed it. My wife on more than one occasion told me to shut off the light and go to sleep. OH, and the parallels between Jenny and my wife are too many to count already...

    Glad you liked it!

Parallells? Well, to be an effective writer, you first have to be an effective observer. Spend enough time around Motorsports, and you start to see that all those characters, conversations and situations are universal. Ralph is Everyman Racer, and Jenny is Everyman Racer's Everywife. But yeah, a lotta that stuff happened to me....
