Hello to all. this year will be my first for a track day I plan on going to as many as my pocket will allow. The first one will either be Blackhawk or Autobahn North. I was wondering if anyone felt one was better than the other or offered more. To me they look about the same as far as turns and speed. BTW I love some of the on board videos of the different tracks that is awesome.
Autobahn North is 2 hours closer for you. It flows great, with some challenging double apex turns and the facilities are great! I would chose Autobahn first because there are less visual distractions. @ blackhawk for a 1st time track day i think there is potential for target fixing... Don't get me wrong I like both and they are a blast, but for your first time I think you should ease into it, make your experience fun instead of scared and frustrated!!! after all we want you to be a return customer!!!!!! Whyslack
I dont think I will get frustrated or scared, I'm pritty use to this kind of atmosphere. But how bad could it be to not want to come back, I mean come on you have a track a motorcycle and a bunch of other peolpe just like you wanting to do the same thing. THAT HAS TO ROCK!!!! anyway thanks for the info, I think I will try Autobahn first mainly because it is closer and that could save me a hundred or so. Thanks again
Like Matt pointed out Autobahn is 2 hrs closer so I would go there. The difference between to 2 tracks: Autobahn North is more open, the turns (except between 1 & 2) are spread out so there is opportunity to celebrate, relax and focus on the next turn. Sections of Blackhawk are pretty tight so the turns are more of a series than individual. I'm going to use an extreme example here to help convey the difference: If you ride a GSXR 1000 than Autobahn would be better. If you ride a 250 motard then Blackhawk will be more fun. You can ride either track with either bike, these would be my choices.
Yeah, the facilities at Autobahn are way nicer than BHF, although with the new ownership, they're planning on putting up some new buildings, etc. Fingers crossed. I enjoy both tracks, but have to say I like BHF a little bit better. ACC North is nice, flowing, no long straights, and you have the option of also doing the south or full course. The north track can get a teeny bit boring to me, and doing the other track configurations keeps it interesting. Even though BHF isn't much longer, it was my first track experience, and even though I've ridden it god knows how many times since, I'm still not bored with it. Anyhoo, since it's closer, I'd say you should do ACC as your first experience, especially since the STT date at BHF isn't until September. You might want to also consider Putnam.
This is kinda what i was gettin at. I wish i could show up with a 600RR that is all track but the reality is I have a 954RR and it doesnt flip around like a 600 will. But that being said Im no stranger to the dragon & if you've ridden this you know it is pritty complex and i feel comfortable throwing it around and shaving my chicken line down to nothing. Again the reality is I have no formal training just all around riding experience and I really want to know how much Im doing wrong or could be doing better. thanks for all the input from everyone this is helpful.
Another vote for Autobahn, like Matt and Kozy said, lots of run off room, flows well, less visual distractions. The facilities are top notch which comes in handy first thing in the morning. Its 15 minutes from my house, so I'm a little biased. Blackhawk is fun too though... Look forward to seeing you out there.
For your first trackday, pick Autobahn. Its simple. Autobahn north is smooth and very flowing with plenty of run off room. Blackhawk has a few corners, that if your not on a good line, they can be a bit rough if you are not ready for them. Also for what its worth, after your first trackday, you'll want to get home as fast as you can to tell your friends how cool it was. Not to mention that the extra two hours you get home, you can work on calming down from the adrenaline rush from the track before bed.....but its not going to help....... hahahaha
On the facilities at BHF - Super Dave posted a pic on the CCS forum of the spot where the bathrooms used to be - the whole building is gone. There's a new management building at the gate, and a new tech building might go in. Probably wont be as posh as ACC, but I'm guessing we wont recognize the place in spring.
Always needing your hand held eh? Not really that exciting, just snow and trees - pic is halfway down the page (I'm not sure if you have to be logged in/have an account to actually see it). http://www.ccsforum.com/index.php/topic,19420.0.html
I miss you too ya big lug. I am working today and probably tonight. Too many employees on vacation. Are you going?
