I was going to get a DID erv3 gold chain and 16/43 520 conversion kit, but checked with DID and they said that chain is only "good" for 750cc and less?? But is everybody else ignoring the manufacture and using a lighter chain?? What about 16/43 for this bike on the smaller tracks . Thanks for any advice/tips.

Get the chain they reccomend . You might get by with the lighter one , but why risk it for what 20- 25 bucks ?

The heavier chain will last longer .

Start with one tooth down in the front for sprokets . I like to gear a bike high enough that I never get to use first gear .( in a corner ) [/u]

Yes almost everybody ignores the manufacturer & uses a lighter chain.

15/42 is probably the best all around gearing for your 1000RR

    My 1000RR gearing page http://www.rogueracing.org/gearing.htm

Since I use my 1000RR as my dedicated track bike getting thousands of miles on the track every season I stayed with the 530 chain (it is the new DID ERV though).

I have used the 520 conversion on my RC51 & the GSXR1000 with no problems whatsoever. You just need to make damn sure you keep the chain clean & lubed to help reduce wear & tear on it.
