I'm a husky 5'8" 220lb kind of guy. Off the rack suits don't fit me unless I buy a large suit and hack off several inches from the arms and legs. This year I decided to check out Comet Racing Leathers. My budget was between $700-900 for a new suit, custom or off the shelf. I purchased a custom Comet Apex Pro CCR suit. 30-35 days later I receive the suit but not without issues. I contacted the owner Karl about my issues and from his piss-poor communication I am done dealing with Comet Racing. Karl does not make the suits. He does not see the suits. He does not inspect the suits. He can't even alter the suits. All he can do is take your money and outsource the suit. Issues with my Comet Racing Leathers suit: -Bleeding of several logo's especially the Rockstar logo on my speed hump. -Forearm length is 1" longer than what I measured. -Titanium elbow plate is at my forearm -Left calf is very constrictive. -When I received the suit, box was heavily damaged -Various scratches through-out the suit Please review my pictures. Do you agree with my issues or am I just making a mountain out of a mole hill?
That's weird: In your mirror picture of the elbow plate your right (holding the camera) arm appears to locate correctly but the left one is off. I suggest putting on all your gear and sitting on the bike in your tuck. Have someone else take pictures. -Tom
Tom, if both my arms are symmetrical the titanium plates will be in the exact same location relative to each other. When sitting on the bike in a full tucked position the arm accordion stretch panels on the suit touch my thighs.
Sorry you are having issues with the suit, but another reason to be careful with these "custom" suit manufactures. They are not all created equal and when you are getting a custom suit for under $1,000 chances are you'll get what you've experienced. Most of these companies are start ups that farm the manufacturing to Pakistan. Now, some of them have good quality control, etc., a majority of them do not. No luck with getting him to step up and help with alterations or getting it fixed?
Within 24-48hrs of receiving the suit and noticing the issues I took pictures and sent him a powerpoint explaining the issues. After a positive 45 minute talk I was under the impression that he would make me a new suit while I bring my suit to trackday seminars and shows where and when allowed for demo and promotion purposes for Comet Racing (but hide the flaws). Fast forward to this week he emailed me stating that I should send him the suit ASAP so he can make me a new one. A couple of months has now lapsed and my 2nd suit was never started. If I would of knew from the start that he needed the 1st suit first before cutting the 2nd one I would of shipped it to him immediately after our 45 minute conversation. I wouldn't of wasted my time asking and begging business's to hang my suit up to promote his brand. I can still send my suit back to him now but I highly doubt he can get me a new suit in time for my trackdays in May. I've lost a lot of time because of his communication issues. During our conversation I told him I was not happy about the logo bleeding issues but I can live with it. What I needed fixed was the forearm was too long and would get in the way of gauntlet gloves. I asked if I could sent it back to him in Michigan to remove about 1" off the forearm but he has no alteration capabilites.
Man that sucks!! But like Aubrey said, you get what you are experiencing when you buy a "custom" suit for under 1k. I would file a complaint with the BBB that wakes people up. Good luck getting everything worked out.
Just another guy taking $1000 for a suit and drop shipping it from Alibaba for $200. Stop buying from these guys. If you really must have a junk suit, order it from alibaba yourself.
alterations about your best choice is to have it altered by taking the excess material out of the bicep and that will move the cuff and the armor and elbow slider all up and not disturb your sleeve zipper.. it will make a new seam around the bicep area. I've already had other comet suits in here for similar work. the suit owners have been payiing for the work though. that's probably your best choice . If he's already having fit issues and not taking care of his customers he won't last long. well at least you got a suit unlike a lot of OVO customers . ps. altering may change any painted on graphics or logos . bill and darethea

I would just give him a shout at the number he listed, that way you can get moving on this asap. That is definitely your best option, Bill will take care of you.
Invoice yes we'll put a receipt in the box with the leathers . you can pre-pay or mail a check . we don't do cc or paypal and we know how to make change if there's an overpayment but I'm thinking 100.00 on that alteration is probably about right . thanks, bill barnacle bill's 1106 logan road springfield ky 40069
The biggest shame is that the 'bargain' suits made it hard for people like Barnacle Bill. Yes I am biased because I have a suit from him that cost a bit more but fit perfectly AND held up with no repair required when I literally got run over (yes it is scuffed op.
bargain suits yep in one way the virtual shops have made it hard on any suits being built in the USA but they have increased work in the repair and alteration department . we are at the point where it seems futile to chase that new suit dollar on a roadrace suit when we have repairs and alterations to do and at my age I don't worry about it anymore . you can order cheap suits from overseas but you can't send them back for repairs or alterations and very few of your virtual shops have the equipment or expertise to take care of you. thank you all for your continued support .
