Just have lil man hold the go pro from the roof, duct tape a kindling stick to a tree trimmer, light it and then light from a distance op:
What if the drone was programmed to stay on the inside of the track never crossing the asphalt? Or maybe try it during lunch for 20 minutes if I sign a waiver acknowledging the danger? I'd give up a session to try it. Just thinking out loud
You mean where all the people, cars, trailers, bikes, kids, tents, scooters, motorhomes and my beer are located? I don't care about the rest... but there is a big risk of knocking over my beer! Trevor, on the other hand, probably cares more about the other stuff... which is weird because he's Canadian, and they LOVE beer! :fencing:
It not like we haven't had a crop duster buzz the tower. I would not want a novice drone pilot.... But I bet you could get some awsome footage with one properly controlled
Stt could limit it to the outside of the track from turn 2 through 9? I'd give up my last two sessions for 45 minutes and any instructors or other A guys that would go out their during a lunch hour to see how it goes. There's no harm in trying it once right? This is a professional photographer/film guy that's been using the drones for some time now so he's not a newb
I have this awesome mental image of 30 of these filling the skies during a session following all the riders... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcEnThx2440 No Pilot Needed! -Tom
I'm sure if it were to ever get approved they'd limit to an actual photographer like they do with still photographers at the track?
How is this different than any other action sport? I'm curious as this is all new to me other than what I've read on the rising popularity of using it. So is it a matter of were not there yet or wait till the market floods and tracks that allow it will see more demand for it? Again I'm just thinking out loud
Anything can happen.... I dont give a Damn if your Ansel Adams with a Flight Permit... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhDG_WBIQgc Not to mention its a distraction with tracks that have elevation changes... I dont want to see these above me or anyone else...
Fair enough. But if a few riders are ok with it and the photographer pays the same fees then at least experimenting during a break when all other riders are off the track could at least... Be considered right?
Have the Photographer rent the track for a Event for those that want to have a Heli flying around... Other than that its not going to happen at a STT Event....
In a football game a drone crashes on a running person, not good but not a 150 MPH collision either. A car has the structure of the car to help should that occur. IMO a huge unnecessary safety risk. But go to www.grattanraceway.com and I am sure there is contact info for Sam or that will get to him. My guess would be he might say no but if not will defer to the renter for policy.
First, outside of track from T2-T9 puts you squarely in a stand of trees on the outside of the sweeper. Second, while I applaud your "don't take no for an answer" approach, the powers that be have spoken. Continuing to publicly argue, or "go over their head" at Grattan will, at best, piss them off and at worst, ensure that you never have an opportunity to launch the drone as a customer. I suggest taking this private, and discussing with Trevor exactly what your ideas and thoughts are. WE don't need to be a part of it and he has clear, and realistic concerns.
Here you go: Grattan Certainly, if you want to rent the track privately, and have some folks show up and video them, I'm sure you can hook something up. When you rent the track privately, you can do all sorts of things that you can't do at a public event. But, at an STT event, that's open to the public... I can't have you show up with a drone.... lose control of it, and some poor guy who just showed up to the track to ride his bike, nail it with his head and crash. I know it's a remote possibility.... but I've been doing this long enough to know that it can happen. So there won't be drones at an STT event - ever. best, t
