    Well it’s that time of the year. The season is coming to a close, and no matter where you are it’s getting a bit cold and your bike is or is about to be stashed away for the winter. What is it a perfect time to do you ask? It’s a perfect time to get those forks and shocks serviced! Why is it a good time? Well for one your bike probably won’t miss your forks and shock very much right now and secondly we are not as busy this time of year so we charge you less for the job.

    Why do I need to service my forks and shock you ask? There are tons and tons of answerers to that questions but it boils down to a few very important ones:
    • The oil in your shocks and forks has a lifespan just like you motor oil, it needs to be changed. For track bikes we suggest once a season and for street bikes we say every 10,000 miles.
    • If you have never had your oil changed you are running around with all the debris that is left over from when the shock and forks broke in. You would be amazed the amount of material that gets transferred to the oil when your contact surfaces in your forks and shock well….contact each other.
    • It’s a great time to get your forks or shock upgraded for next season. I’ll bet dollars to donuts that 75% of the people receiving emails don’t have the correct springs for their weight. We would have discussed this if I set your bike up at the track. When I am servicing some forks or a shock it doesn’t take me any more time to put the correct springs in, which means no extra cost to you aside from the actual springs. And don’t forget, springs are the most important part of your suspension by a factor of 10!


    So there your bike is doing nothing, here we are doing close to nothing, lets make something happen here. We are offering the following services at a special rate:

    • Fork oil change, rebuild and re-shim. This operation will get that old and nasty OEM oil out of there and replace it with Ohlins oil. We will completely disassemble the forks to make certain that they were put together properly from the beginning (you would be amazed how often they are not). We re-shim the rebound valve to give you a range of adjustment that you currently don’t have and you desperately need. The forks will be assembled with some TLC, oil levels set correctly and all packed up and sent to you. If you require springs we can install them at this time. The cost of the springs is an extra ($110)
    • Shock oil change, recharge. Just like the forks, the shock gets the life beat out of the oil, which will be changed. In addition to that the shock will be completely disassembled, inspected, cleaned up and put back together. We have found this simple process improves most shocks dramatically. We don’t know who puts these together, but they don’t do a very good job from what we have seen. If you require a spring we can install them at this time. The cost of the springs is an extra ($90)

    So what does all this cost you ask? Not much I say.
    • Fork oil change, rebuild and re-shim is $225* retail and we are doing them right now, through the end of November for $175*. That is parts and labor included.
    • Shock oil change, rebuild, recharge is $250 retail for parts* and labor for an OEM shock. Right now we are doing them for $200 parts* and labor. If you own a Ohlins, Penske, Matris, Fox or any other quality aftermarket shock retail pricing is $225*.Right now we are doing them for $160* parts and labor. They are easier for us to do so we don’t charge as much.

    Aside from it being time to get your current suspension serviced we are having a sale on everything we sell, Ohlins products are 20% off or even more if you want to get a package for your bike.

    Errrrrrrrrrrrr, screeeeeeettttcccchhhhhh. Now let’s slam on the brakes. We need to address the number one reason that people don’t send their suspension components off to get serviced and that is they are not very confident in removing and re-installing them. To address that situation we have a trick for you. All you need is a six foot “A†frame ladder and some tie downs. Simply raise the front or rear of your bike, hook the tie downs to the frame and simply remove the shock or forks. The forks are easier than you would think; they are only a few more pinch bolts than removing the front wheel and the shocks are all fairly simple. After you have your stuff serviced you will get a set of instructions on how to put your forks back on, how to torque everything up and get everything back together correctly.
