Just wondering if anyone raced this? I'd love to get into racing and this seems like an economical choice being as all the races are at Nelson except one I think. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has any expeiences with them.
Great way to get into racing! It's clubman level racing (trophies rather than prize money), so it's a lower key form of competition. People are generally less likely to take someone out for a trophy. Still good competitive racing though. Good group of people that are very helpful to newbies. Nelson Ledges is scary fun. If they continue to make improvements, it will be more fun & less scary. Their 3 hour endurance races are a blast to co-ride with a friend. You can do their licensing school Saturday morning, & run the endurance race Saturday afternoon. You get a fair amount of track time and a feel for racing that way, with less pressure than 8-10 lap sprint races. Then if that goes well, there's spring races the next day. I only wish they ran at other tracks too.
My husband has raced this and WERA for a number of years. Anything you want to know I can ask him or just get him on here to answer questions. But DJ pretty much summed it up.
I've actually got the itch to seriously race my new bike this year. I've got a 2002 race ready SV 650 now. I really wanted to race WERA, but the budget is what it is. I remember reading about FASTTRAX. I read about it, looked at the fees, analized my info and I'm going to do some races at Nelson Ledges there this year. Sounds like a great deal and it'll be fun. Is anyone else here going to be racing with them there this year?
Also, don't overlook WERA because you got banned by Papa for talking politics on the BBS in the general section, either...
 I'm doing Fasttrax this year mainly because of that WERA reputation. I ran WERA MANY years ago but I sucked so who knows what it would be like now that I only sorta sux... I could certainly use the track exposure to up my game.
This will be my 4th season racing almost exclusively with Fasttrax and I really like the organization, the people, and Nelson Ledges!! Once you find the right way around the surface isn't that bad, but I have only done low 13's on the SV, so I am by no means fast compared to the WERA guys. WERA entry fees may be comparable to Fasttrax, but travel would be way to much for my club level, only out there to have fun, racing budget. You can camp at the Ledges for the cost of entry either in the pits or anywhere out in the infield if you want to get away from others. The facilities improve every year, the hot pit was repaved last year and the track and runoff are being improved slowly as track has money to do so. Chad
ive been racing with fasttrax for about 10yrs in the 3hr endurance(ironbutt) and love it. great group of riders, good compition, and way too much fun with having your pants on lol.............wayne(63)
I have the itch to race this year too. I signed up for the STT Pro school at Grattan this year, and I'm looking for a lot of input from the coaches. I'm looking at racing with WERA because Grattan is a little over 2 hours from my house. For me, I just want to have some fun, and enjoy the competition. I looked at Fasttrax, but drive would just be too much, and I only have one sponsor - My wife.
  I would have thought I would have got a dinky break for being new with maybe a warning on that. It wouldn't keep me from doing WERA though. I'm actually planning on doing WERA next year. Also, I'll even say it on here, in a nice way. I was sticking up for a nice guy that I know that was a vet. Army brethren look out for others that served. Banned or not  . NOW I'm watching my mouth on the other forums for now. I don't want to get banned in less than a day again :x
Just so you know I don't have a problem with WERA at all. I actually want to race with them next year. However, my budget is VERY tight getting started out and the little bit of a difference in cash that is enough for now this year. I'll be at the WERA events for sure next year though. Now, before I post more. Do they have electrical hookup at Nelson Ledges? If so that will help in regards to a generator in the short while. Thanks.
They only have like 2 hook ups and they charge quite a bit to use them and they are not on hot pit. There are a couple of outlets in the Tech Shed, but I would plan on bringing my own power if I were you. Chad
Thanks Chad. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Just in case I was looking in the craigs list for generators and I found quite a few. I'm just going to go that route. It's an investment that I'm going to need anyways honestly.
Can't make up my mind.......now I'm considering just doint the WERA races this year. I can only do three later in the summer on the budget, but I'm probably going to go this route. Man, decisions can go back and forth until it's decided
I did TD’s for about 3 years. Wanted to try out racing. I looked into Fasttrax because they used to race at Putnam (my home track). Did the race school with them last year at NL, and a few rounds. Good group. They are starting to branch out a little (Beaverrun). Next year more tracks. I’m doing the entire series with them this year. I can’t compare to WERA or CCS, I haven’t raced with them. I would recommend Fasttrax. They are a good group of guys and girls. Grid sizes are decent, not huge. The school is good also, much better than Team Chicago school. The price is good if you are looking for track time. $60 for a full track day on Saturday for anyone racing on Sunday. I don’t think you can get that at WERA. Nelson isn’t that bad, gets an unfair bad rap. Just my 2 cents. Good luck
