I'm planning on going to Barber for the first time in July. I’m wondering what the skill levels are like there. I know it's difficult to answer, but which group should I sign up for novice or intermediate? I've done 6 or 7 track days at Jennings GP and run Low 1:30's in intermediate but that’s the only track I've ever been to. If you’re not familiar with Jennings, it’s pretty technical, but the speeds are not as high as what I’m told Barber’s are. I’m not a hot shot, so I don’t want to sign up for the intermediate and hold people up, but at the same time, I don’t want to go snail pace. Any help from those who have been there would be very helpful.
If you have done 6-7 days at Jennings you will be fine in Int at Barber. Its a really wide track so do not think you will hold anyone up while you learn it.
Just remember, that if you do sign up for intermediate and feel out of place or uncomfortable do this: 1. As one of the track coaches to work with you. They are great people and enjoy helping someone with whatever barriers that they are encountering. 2. You can always bump to Novice for a while to try and get more comfortable with the track and elevation changes. Personally, I would rather ask for help and/or bump down, than to be uncomfortable riding in the group that I'm not suited for, at least for the time being.
That many days at Jennings, Barber you'll be fine in INT. Hookup with one of the INT coaches the first session 1 / 2. They are good and live @ Barber. F' now I want to go 2, but can't.
Be prepared to never want to go to Jennings again.... I plan on being there... Like everyone said hook up with a Coach.. Your gonna love the place.. Come by and say Hi.. Marc
Thanks for the advice guys, I'll surely get with some of the coaches to learn the track. The elevation changes will take some getting used to. This reminds me, how do you guys set your suspension for dealing with the ups and downs out there? I would imagine you would soften them up a bit, but I really don't have a clue. Ivan
