Howdy everyone! I'm the Novice with the Blue/White GSXR 600 that went down Saturday afternoon. I'm doing alright as I made it out of the hospital this morning and am now just chilling on my couch for the rest of the week. Final tally was 7 fractured ribs, broken right scapula and a lacerated liver (which is what kept me in the hospital for so long). I guess it's kind of a good thing, but I don't remember what happened in T1, so I can't really learn too much from that. I was hitting that turn pretty well all day, was there a rut in T1 that I might have missed? Sorry for the downtime on the track as a result and thanks to anyone who helped my buddy clean up our stuff!
I think he was just mesmerized by the sound of my Italian superbike and couldn't bring himself to pass me and leave behind its siren song. :bounce:
Yea you passed me several times I never missed that orange machine haha. No worries about the pass we both adjusted our lines quickly and life goes on. Any tips you may have for me I always like input from riders who are obviously quicker then me. Sorry if I held anyone up last time I tried to hang with the boys on slicks It didn't end up well for me...that's going to be the off season investment....and steering dampener....I felt a little crazy going to Grattan w/o one.
I was envious of your bike/leathers/trailer ect.... :thumb: I was standing by the fence in one of the later sessions when the red flag came out your family was bit nervous until they spotted you. On a serious note SERIOUSLY WHAT AM I GOING TO DO ALL WINTER! :help:
I think there are some tracks in the southern hemisphere...:blah: I'm with you on this. Still all pumped up from the weekend and can't believe I won't be able to wring the 749's neck for 6 months. Depressing. Oh well, project time. Last year I pieced together my trackbike from a box of parts. I don't have anything that ambitious slated for this winter, but I do have to get my 999s back in fighting form after it was stolen and roughed up in Indianapolis. With the insurance check in the bank account, I'm considering various options.
I was following my buddy in the last session Sunday to get some footage of his lines. (Names have been withheld to protect the innocent...) Unfortunately, soon after I passed him he decided to explore a short cut at the end of the straight and caused the final red flag of the Int group on Sunday. I apologize on this behalf. He was fine, just a few bumps and bruises. We will be giving him shit about this all winter long until he gets the bike back together and can redeem himself in the Spring. http://contour.com/videos/watch/grattan-93012-4pm-following-lms-to-the-getoff
@ JohnnyRocket, you make a cameo appearance in this video I made off the back of my 749. http://contour.com/videos/watch/grattan-93012-weavin-and-bobbin--2
Ya as you blew by me. :fear: Maybe next year I will be back up to speed and may be able to keep up with you. Good times at the track had by all! :thumb:
GabeRR - I had a case of lunchmeat-a-phobia during this session while in T1 - I have video of you passing me on outside of T1 (~4:36 in your video) while Mike M is passing me on the inside of T1!. You were looking damn good at that point whereas I was looking mighty slow.
Thanks! I love my S1KRR, but I somewhat regret getting it because I originally got it for just street riding.. but ya know I went to the track once and am fully addicted now haha. Wish I woulda got a 600. My skinny ass needs a lighter bike haha. That's the project for this winter though :woot: And it was my moms first time coming and watching, so she was a bit freaked out especially when she's watching at that hill during CCW. Everyone's front wheel is coming off the ground at 90+mph haha Haha yeah I made a mistake by trying something off Grattan's cafeteria menu that lunch, I forgot what it was called, but it was frito's, ground beef, and cheese. Lets just say my stomach was not happy haha. If anyone know's who rides a tannish/silver ZX-10R with red leathers I was behind him for a while in that vid. He was hauling ass when I started following him haha. I'll be posting a few more vid's tomorrow and will snag my dads camera to upload those too. He got quite a few of other riders
You were getting around pretty well, but since you asked... Quit looking behind you. There's nothing you can do about what's going on back there, except ride pretictably. When you look back you can slow down or turn slightly, & if there is someone there they might be right there. I understand people tend to get away with it in the follow the leader Novice environment, but it's a bad habit. If you weren't wearing earplugs, that would help. Never take a hand off the handlebars, excpet to signal a red flag or that you are getting off the track. Nice exits btw. Your head tends to stay over the middle of the bike. Try moving it & your upper body first next time, rather than swinging your lower body around. The less weight over the bars the better.
I am I not trying to pill it on, but your video does show a few thing you can improve on. We realize some of the drills/techniques maybe new and with practice they will get better. On the plus side: I have seen far worse from riders from riders with more trackdays. To follow up on what Dennis said. I suspect the reason your head is in the middle of the bike is because your inside elbow is not pointed toward the ground. You cannot see your arms/elbows in the video, but if you compare the height of your head/shoulders before & during the turns to where they are when on the straightaway I think it's safe to say inside arm is straight. Also You are making multiple moves/corrections while corning. Learn how to just move once when setting up for a corner. Every time you move it upsets the bike, even those little ones.
I was going to say the same thing, his avatar shows otherwise hahahah. But thanks to both of you who gave me some stuff to work on during my next track day. It's hard to tell the coaches what I need help on because I dont know what I am doing wrong if I feel comfortable.
This was my 2nd time ever turning a wheel at the arguably the most difficult track in the US. I managed a :29.5 which from what I'm told is very respectable. Here's some vids from that day - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4UmmH0pO-Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4iLdw26hGw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slrynkLcr-U http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8mmIHY07rU Critique, comment, nice ass, all welcome. Also, I had a camera on the back during that tank slapper. The shaking was so violent that it made my tail GoPro skew to one side. The result though gave me this picture on one of the following laps which turned out awesome -
Sorry I am not one to compliment guys on their ass But damn, can you blip!!! I wish I could do that! Will keep trying.
Hey Multistraddler, here is one earlier in the day (I think the 10 am session) with you, Timmy and myself. Looks like Timmy got bored with how slow we were going and left us in his dust. :bolt: Do you have a video facing forward of the same session? http://s1241.photobucket.com/albums...ew¤t=SunIgroup10amsmall_zps8c5c9b81.mp4
I was behind you for that tank slapper on the far right of the strait, me and the other guy just said wooooo and off the gas. What session was that? I put my camera on in the afternoon.
