My 02 GSXR600 likes to puke its fork seals. I have been getting about 2-3 trackdays and one of them will let go (slow leak). This is happening on both sets of my forks. I have checked the tubes for straightness, and they all appear straight when rolled on a flat surface and they are not bottoming out. From what I could cull from the internet, this appears to be pretty common for the 45mm Showas.

    Solutions seem to be:

    1. change transport mode (do not rachet down front of bike).

    2. put on better fork guards, neoprene boots.

Has anyone else had this problem and what was your solution?

    Thanks,

I had the same bike and the same problem at the start. Tie the bike down at the frame by the rear sets instead of ratcheting down the front. I used a canyon dancer and pulled snug just as a backup unless I had another strap come loose but I started strapping at the frame and didn't blow another seal.

Also, get a set of seal savers. they are neoprene sleeves that go right where the lower meets the fork tube and they will keep the seals clean. It will also keep rocks or debris from hitting the tube right above the seal that will cause tears. I went through 3 sets of seals in 5 weeks till I made these changes and didn't lose another set after that.

Also, check the tubes and make sure that any knicks or imperfections have been filed down with a jewelers file. That will keep them from snagging.

Lastly, don't run off road at tally and hit the ditch in the infield.... that tends to blow them too ;)

John, get a latemodel GSXR front end: Trees, forks, wheel axle & radial brakes. You can get it on ebay for under $500. you'll have better everything & no more puking seals.

Thanks, that is exactly what I did, I now use an axle stand on the trailer and bought the neoprene boots, 6 trackdays and counting without a problem.....

Lance...I am too cheap to do that...
