Im originally from Houston, and know a few of the folks that got to ride COTA that day. They said the track was HUGE, very very nice, but VERY anal about....everything. The track surface was like glass (in a good way) but they said the very smallest of infraction was almost grounds for release. Down to passing space, speed, even noise (or so i hear). All in all, most said it was worth the $500 just to say they have "done it" but hardly any of them said they'd do it again for that cost.

The truth is that Nurburgring seems like a bit of a rip off compared to a trackday. It looks like an amazing place though. Hopefully it stays open although I have no chance of ever getting to ride there.
I think it'd be fun to do in my car (or rent a lotus for the day), but on a bike you'd never get a rhythm and learn the track.
A fast lap at the Nordschleife on a bike is 9 minutes. I'd guess a new rider to be in the 12-13 minute range. So when you figure every lap is half a session, it's not so bad. I did 6 laps in one day there (in a car) and that seemed like a lot. The place is overwhelming. Matt
