Don't use simple green or wd40. It will destroy the clear coat. Wash the bike with water and mild soap. Then use 3m rubbing compound. This is from my painter that did the awesome job on my 1199,

"The black marks could actually be staining in the paint from tar, hot rubber, etc. It's doubtful that the stains will go through the clear coat and actually get into the red though. You may have to grab some "micro finishing" compound which is specifically made for clear coat...and take a 100% cotton rag or cloth and use a dab, like as much as you would put on a toothbrush and rub the stain off of the clear, then just hit it with the hand polish again. The part number for the compound, made by 3M is #36060."

wd 40 will not hurt cured automotive finishes. it is the safest fastest way to remove topical tire rubber on race palstics. using rubbing compound will effect shine and finish quality. it is an abrasive cleaner and all abrasives at some point will wear through clear coats or finishes.

Ski beat me to it.... WD is GEL Based... NOT Alcholol based.... It also makes a great starting fluid too...I never hose my bike with Soap and water.... Only use WD to clean Plastics Metals and Chain..(Another argument will come) then Honda Polish for polishing... Not the chain.. : )

I use WD-40 also for cleaing the harder stuff (grease etc.) but I also use Lemon Scented Pledge (or similar non branded stuff) for polishing the the frame, swinger (after cleaning w/WD) wheels, windscreen etc. It works exactly like Honda Polish but at less cost!

Try it. you will thank me :)

I do hose my bike too though

For preventing the stuck rubber and bugs, rub a thin layer of vasoline in the areas you're herring the rubber stuck. It's an old car drag racing trick.

Boat cleaners are great on race bikes and everything else. Doesn't screw up your paint and tough enough to do the job. West Marine, Bass Pro, and Wally World sell many boat cleaners. Been using boat cleaners for years to clean just about everything.

•Quickly removes black streaks caused by water run off
•Safe for use on fiberglass, metal and painted surfaces
•Can be used for many other tough cleaning jobs - bathrooms, tubs, showers, etc.
•Will not remove wax or polish
