His name is Ben (nickname Goobr), and he was on the '06 LE R-1(Yellow of course). Guess it was turn 1 where he bit it, anyway, he is semi-ok with 7 cracked/broken ribs on the left side I believe. One of the ribs nicked a lung, but not bad enough to intubate(sp?). He will cough up some blood for a few days and probably cry like a baby when anyone makes him laugh (or he even THINKS about going to the bathroom  ), but otherwise he is OK and in good spirits.

I was a little shocked when I got the call, Saturday night because I was supposed to meet him and ride with him all weekend, but real life got in the way :( Ben used to race WERA back in the day and just recently (last summer) rediscovered his love of the track. He is the absolute BEST to have around at the track to bench race with and get tips from because he is just FULL of usefull tips and information, and always goes the extra mile to help anyone out. I was a little pissed at myself for not being there to help him out when he had the get-off

ANYWAYS, the way he recalls it is a stupid rookie mistake and lack of concentration. Guess he had to check up a little too hard on a guy going in to turn 1 and washed the front end, resulting in a fairly slow lowside @ 50mph or so, but a little bit of a rough landing I guess.

Thanks again to all of his buds at the ZRX forum for all the help you guys provided and get well soon Goobr so we can tear it up!!

Thanks Dan. Yeah, I'll be back ASAP. It was T4 (the hairpin?,,, left hander?). Like I described it to somebody else, it was a testerone filled brain phart. That's what ticks me off,,, I KNEW better! Anyway, what's done is done and prior experience is reinforced.

I do want to thank STT, corner workers, the ambulance crew and all the folks that helped me get all my stuff together. I'll definately be back. It was my first track event with STT and I was impressed as heck at how organized and professionally it was run. Top notch instructors too.

Thanks again folks. I had fun,,, just ain't too fun right now.

  4. The Hairpin is actually T5, but glad to hear you are okay. I think we saw you guys on I-20 East on the way back home Sunday in the rain. Your bike was being pulled by a Subaru IIRC. I was in the Copper Nissan Titan pulling the Gixxer and SV on the trailer.

    Heal up quick.

That is a long ride back, glad you up-beat about it. Were you in Intermediate? I saw video from my buddy of an R1 going down hard in T5.

Actually it was his dad taping from the top of the building. I do not think it shows you going down, just already down. Do you remember anything?

You crashed an LE! Please tell me the bike is OK.

Oh, you're OK as well I hope. [jk] :)

Yeah,,, I remember the whole thing. Never blacked out.

mark600, no, it's not an LE. 50th anniversary.

I've got a pretty good line on some bodywork thank goodness. I'm leaving my sister's house in Georgia today headed back home to Lakeland, Fl. It's been "very" tempting to start tearing it down on the trailer this week. Guess what I'll be doing tonight when I get home? :)

    awwwww man!!

i didn't know that was you.

we heard that a yellow r1 went down, but when we went by your pits, your bike looked fine and noone was outside. we assumed it was someone else.

sorry for not coming up and helping out. i really feel bad.

hope your feeling better. if it's any consolation i had to haul my lame ass buddy back from barber with a broken collarbone.

No sweat Bro. I was prolly already in route to the meat locker. (Man it was cold in that trauma unit!) Trixskier took my car and came to the hospital and I bet Rodney was out on the track.

Right, if you saw the right side of the bike, you would have never guessed it went down. Wish I coulda met ya though. I saw you come in Friday evening but never even made it down to the first tier that night.

I'm planning on coming back to Barber in Oct when STT does it then. For now, obviously I'm taking the next month or 6 weeks off. I sold my Road Atlanta spot in April with NESBA but am gonna try to be ready for Roebling Road in May with Frank Kinsey Racing.

The R1 faired pretty well actually. A heck of a lot better than me! I'm waitin' on a buddy to come over from St Petersburg right now to help me get it unloaded and start taking the plastic off to see what I have to do. Here's a couple of pics. Not too bad.

Okay, hope to meet ya in Oct!

footpeg/gearshift assembly is tweaked but I think I can straighten it .

Frame slider plastic broke off. That's the first order of business to get that bolt out without messin' anything else up.
