I picked up a set of Power One race takeoffs recently, and the front tire has a very small chunk of rubber missing right along the bead. Is this safe to use? The lip of the front rim will be higher than where the piece is missing from the tire.
The lip of the rim means nothing. My biggest concern would be it hold air at the bead. I would suspect the tire might slowly bleed air. If that is the case, the tire would be very unsafe. If it does hold air, have fun and use it. For the record, I would not run anything I suspect to be a problem. Its a front tire, not really worth being cheap on that. -X
Crank it up to 110 psi... If it dosent leak Your good.... Lips on Suzuki rims are suitable to more than what you would think.... Just don't pul any record breaking stoppies... Also if you need a front just to ease your mind I will bring a extra slick for you.. I have a few extras...
The choice is up to you, but for the relatively low cost of a tire for the piece of mind...I'd never run it.
Thanks! I might just take you up on that offer. Are they Michelin slicks? I'll be at Barber at the end of April.:thumb: It's supposed to be in the 50's here next week. I'll mount the front on a spare rim, crank it up, and see what happens. I don't think I'll go to 110psi, though. For now, I have Power One commercials on the bike, with tons of tread left on them. The seller has also offered to make things right if I decide not to use the front. Very cool of him.
At the beading edge. I wouldn't use it. Holding air sitting still is different then being flexed and stressed. If you have to ask, don't run it.
