Jumping off his 600 and onto a few GP bikes suited Jake just fine. Getting the hat track winning the 3 GP classes he entered was only part of it. As of now he is undefeated in the 125 and Moto3 classes while defending his national #1 plate.
But the best race of the day was the Moriwaki spec race. Riding a new bike that was just uncrated a few days prior, it was fueled and oils filled for the first time at the track. Having qualified 2nd running the bike just as it came out of the crate, Jake felt he could do better once the sag and clickers were adjusted and the gearing changed.
After getting the holeshot and leading part of the first lap, Jake pulled over out of the way of traffic as he thought the motor was tying up. After the other riders all got by, Jake took it easy the rest of the lap till he got to the front straight where if it were to tie up on the gas, at least he would be straight up and down. When he crossed the start/finish line he was 10 seconds down on the leaders. With most of the rider qualifying in the 1:40 range, Jake would have to put his head down to catch up. Keep in mind these bikes have bone stock CRF250X motors in them (most of them anyway LOL). With only 9 laps to get to the front, Jake put his head down and took off. Keeping it pinned and bouncing off curbs he started picking off riders and worked his way up to 3rd right behind the leaders with one lap to go. On that last lap he not only passed 1st and 2nd, but pulled a 2 second lead at the finish. In his charge to the front, jake bettered his qualifying time by almost 3 seconds getting into the .37s (he ran a 1:33.1 in the Moto3 class on his Ape 125).
Come to find out about 1/2 way thru the race, Jake had slammed a curb so hard he lost his transponder...good thing USGPRU also records laps by hand. Although some were very vocal at the awards ceremony, he was still awarded the win.
So next weekend we are going to miss the STT Barber as we will be going to Road Atlanta for the WERA round, but will see everyone at the July Barber.
BTW, stay tuned for an interesting announcement...until there is an official press release from USGPRU, all I can say right now it might have the words "Indy GP" in it somewhere!
    Thanks STT!! Tdub

Thanks for the update Tryce. If the "Indy GP" comes about, I guess I am going to finally have to get off my lazy butt and make it up there to cheer on the fastest that W. Ky has to offer. :)
